Best Mattresses for Black Friday
The Advisor Says: The Saatva Classic is the gold standard for lower-back support, strong edges, and customizable luxury. It’s not the softest or most motion-isolating bed out there, but it’s a dependable, bouncy hybrid that consistently impresses our testers with its two coil units.
If you’re after an innerspring mattress, consider the Saatva Classic, which has three firmness levels and two height options. The bed also comes with individually wrapped coils and connected coils in two layers. Together, these materials provide the Saatva Classic mattress with a durable and supportive structure that sports just enough bounce for combo sleepers.
The Advisor Says: The Midnight has one of the most impressive score spreads of all the mattresses we’ve reviewed. The best word to describe it is “balanced”: it’s got pressure relief, support, and cooling power in spades, plus a versatile medium-firm feel that tends to satisfy lots of sleepers.
Side sleepers usually struggle with pressure building up in the hips, shoulders, and knees. For this reason, they need a mattress that contours the curves and hugs the body. The Helix Midnight is one such model with layers that work together to prevent pressure buildup for those who prefer sleeping on the side. My teammate, Loren, tested the Helix Midnight and felt that it did a good job of evenly distributing her weight while on her side.
The Advisor Says: The Leesa Sapira Chill is a sophisticated hybrid bed that looks and feels classy. We were especially taken with how well it adapted to back and side sleeping. On her back, our tester felt like the Medium model was stable and supportive; on her side, it seemed to soften up to better cushion her shoulders and hips. One caveat, though, is that it’s not as much of a cooling superstar as its name would suggest.
Couples have plenty to consider when shopping for a mattress for two different people, each with their own unique needs and preferences. So ideally, co-sleepers need a bed that performs well in categories most helpful to couples. With this in mind, it was a no-brainer to select the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid as our top mattress for couples on this list.
The Advisor Says: We believe that Nectar offers a quality bed backed up by generous policies, and for under $1,000 for a queen (after discounts). If you’re looking for a firmer foam mattress on a budget, the Nectar Classic has you covered.
Nectar’s Original model has premium materials and a consumer-friendly price point, so you get quality and comfort without breaking the bank. My teammate, Sosha, recently tested this bed, which underwent some construction updates. She especially enjoyed how pressure relieving the Nectar was for her as an average-weight sleeper, giving the bed a 5 out of 5 for pressure relief.
The Advisor Says: The DreamCloud is a pleasantly supportive hybrid that really appealed to the stomach sleepers on our testing team (though it proved itself capable of aligning spines in every position). Its affordable price and couple-friendly features have made it a mainstay of the bed-in-a-box scene.
The DreamCloud Original is a hybrid mattress that offers excellent pressure-relieving capabilities and sufficient support for side sleepers. The bed features high-quality materials that give off a plush and luxurious feel. This bed earned high scores for both pressure relief and support when I tested it, and while comfort looks different for everyone, we consider good pressure relief and support indicative of a comfy bed.
The Advisor Says: Our testers often compare the WinkBed to a luxury hotel mattress, which is no surprise given its handcrafted touches and elegant hybrid design. It’s also one of the most customizable beds out there, with a firmness level for every body type.
Chronic back pain is a serious issue that can keep you from falling and staying asleep. Most people struggling with back pain wake up with discomfort and have trouble going about their day. One of the best ways to avoid this is with a comfortable mattress such as the WinkBeds Original. This hybrid has coils and foams that offer excellent support and comfort to relieve pain and pressure. Loren and I both felt well-supported and cushioned by this bed during our testing.

Pressure relief is a major concern for many people, especially those who prefer sleeping on their side. The Advisor Says: The Bear Star Hybrid touts an enviable medium-firm feel that should appeal to a swath of mattress shoppers, including couples with different preferences looking to “compromise.” We gave this hybrid perfect scores in pressure relief, support, and motion transfer.
Athletes looking for an efficient way to speed up muscle recovery should focus on getting a quality mattress. The Bear Star Hybrid offers top-tier support and pressure relief, both of which should help with muscle recovery. In fact, Sosha gave the Bear Star perfect scores in each of these categories after recently testing this mattress, adding that she thinks it could be a good choice for those navigating pain.
The Advisor Says: Brooklyn Bedding’s Aurora Luxe features a swath of cooling features in its quality hybrid construction. We recommend this bed for anyone who wants a firmer, luxurious-feeling bed without the high price tag.
Hot sleepers know the struggle of finding a cool spot on the mattress. Overheating while trying to fall asleep can make it hard to get a good night’s sleep, especially if it’s hot outside too. If you like to be more atop your mattress than enveloped in it, then you’ve met your match with the Plank Firm. This aptly-named mattress boasts a dual-sided design in which one side has a standard firm feel while the other is extra-firm. For context, we rate firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the firmest. The Plank is noticeably firmer than the average bed we test, with a 7 out of 10 rating for its Firm side and an 8.5 out of 10 rating for its Extra-Firm side.
The Advisor Says: Dare we say the Birch Natural is the bed that comes to mind when we think latex? As the name implies, this bed combines natural components with quality construction, yielding a supportive, luxurious, and eco-friendly mattress.
Latex is kind of like the new guy in town among the mattress types, but more and more people are interested in it because it’s a unique alternative to more standard foam beds that have memory foam or poly foam in them. Often, latex beds are also more eco-friendly, like the Birch Natural. So if you love latex and the planet, this is one to consider.
