The Best Tempurpedic Mattress Alternatives for 2023

Transparency Disclosure – We may receive a referral fee for products purchased through the links on our site... Read More.

Have you been eyeing a Tempur-Pedic mattress? The company has been around since the 1990s, pioneering quality memory foam mattresses that offer a luxurious feel. With its many years of experience, the brand now offers different materials, firmnesses, and constructions. However, these high-end beds are often on the pricey side, which places them over many people’s budgets.

Since the 1990s, when Tempur-Pedic began its story, many additional brands have embarked on making high-quality memory foam mattresses. Luckily for us, they’re typically offering more affordable prices, making memory foam beds more accessible for everyone.

If you have your mind set on a memory foam bed but would like a lower price, we bring you some of the best Tempur-Pedic mattress alternatives. These all come from equally reputable brands, delivering high quality, comfort, durability, and all you could expect from such industry names.

Why the Helix Midnight Luxe Earned Best TEMPUR-ProAdapt® Alternative

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt® has a cooling cover woven with yards to help keep the surface cool. On top of that, the foam in this bed has an open-cell structure for maximum airflow and breathability.

Similarly, the Helix Midnight Luxe has several cooling features that could help you fall asleep faster if you’re a hot sleeper. Helix gives you the option to choose between two cooling covers, one being the well-known Tencel™ cover we see in many high-quality mattresses and the other being the company’s GlacioTex™ cooling cover. The Helix mattress is rated 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, so it’s a great alternative if you’re interested in a Medium TEMPUR-ProAdapt®.

What's the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress Made Of?

The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress is 13.5 inches tall as opposed to the TEMPUR-ProAdapt®, which is 12 inches.

The construction starts with a quilted cooling cover, whether it’s the GlacioTex™ or Tencel™. Next come three layers of memory foam, one of which is infused with copper gel that helps with cooling. Underneath the three comfort layers, is the Helix’s innerspring layer with 1,000 individually-wrapped coils and a reinforced center for added lumbar support.

Finally, there’s another layer of foam acting as a base.

Our Take

“The zoned comfort and support should suit most position preferences. However, side sleepers may be particularly drawn to this bed.”

– Emma, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

  • Cooling – As we said, Helix offers two cover options, both of which are cool to the touch. On top of that, the hybrid design allows plenty of airflow, while the copper gel in the memory foam prevents the comfort layers from overheating.
  • Plush pillow top – The quilted cover is not only cooling but also comfortable and pressure-relieving. The material feels smooth and soft to the touch, allowing just enough sinkage to relieve pressure without throwing your spine out of alignment, even if you’re a stomach sleeper.

Potential Drawbacks

  • No all-foam option – The TEMPUR-ProAdapt® is available as an all-foam and hybrid mattress, but the Helix is only available as a hybrid, meaning there is no all-foam option should you want to avoid the coils. Although coils have many benefits, some people prefer all-foam beds for their excellent motion isolation and slower response.
  • Not for heavy stomach sleepers – Although Emma from our video team found the Helix Midnight Luxe to be comfortable for stomach sleeping, she weighs about 145 pounds. Heavier stomach sleepers, especially those over 230 pounds, may prefer a firmer mattress where they won’t sink too deeply within the first few layers.

Why the Saatva Classic Earned Best TEMPUR-Adapt® Alternative

The TEMPUR-Adapt® is available as an all-foam and hybrid mattress, so you can choose based on your needs and preference. If you’re interested in a hybrid specifically, the Saatva Classic mattress is a good alternative.

The TEMPUR-Adapt® is known for the excellent support it provides because it has more than 1,000 individually wrapped coils throughout the mattress and along the edges. Saatva, on the other hand, has two coil units and enhanced back support with Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire.

What's the Saatva Classic Mattress Made Of?

The Saatva Classic has a natural cotton cover stitched to a 1.25-inch layer of foam. This is called a Euro top and is a type of pillow top made to enhance comfort and pressure relief. Below the pillow top, Saatva has a layer of memory foam in the center, meant to relieve back tension. Next is a layer of coils with zoned support in the center of the bed. This is followed by another layer of coils to prevent sagging and give additional support and airflow.

Our Take

“This mattress feels sturdy and well-built, a feature any sleeper can appreciate.”

– Stuart, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

  • The sturdy construction – As Stuart said, the mattress feels sturdy and like it can last many years. Although the Euro top is plush, you’re likely to feel more ‘on top of’ the mattress than ‘in’ it. Plus, Saatva is a high-end brand known for producing quality mattresses.
  • Safety certifications – The foams in this mattress are CertiPUR-US® certified to be free of harmful substances. On top of that, the cotton is GOTS-certified, making this Saatva an excellent option for eco-friendly shoppers.
  • Lumbar support – People with back pain should appreciate the lumbar support this innerspring mattress provides. This bed has two coil units, so it’s less likely to sag as long as you choose the right firmness. Additionally, it has that small layer in the central third of the mattress, adding even more support for your lumbar area.

Potential Drawbacks

  • Possibly too bouncy – Some people may find this bed too bouncy for their tastes. Since it has two coil units, it is more buoyant than the Medium Hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt®. Some couples may like the bounce, but others who share their bed with a restless sleeper may prefer something with more motion isolation instead.
  • Not the best motion isolation – Since it’s a bouncy bed, the Saatva Classic may not be the best for motion isolation. Although it does have memory foam and individually-wrapped coils in its construction, there are just too many coils that allow too much movement to transfer. This shouldn’t be an issue for partners with similar sleeping habits, but it can be too much for those who toss and turn.

Why the DreamCloud Premier Earned Best TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze® Alternative

The DreamCloud Premier is an excellent mattress that we think provides good value for your money, offering comfort, pressure relief, support, and cooling. The mattress falls at 5.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, so it’s a good alternative to the softer TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze®. Although the DreamCloud Premier is an inch taller, it provides the same level of pressure relief by allowing only a bit of sinkage within the Euro top.

What's the DreamCloud Premier Mattress Made Of?

The Premier comes with a cashmere blend quilted top with two layers of foam in the Euro top. In total, the bed has five layers, with the first two quilted into the cover.

Under the Euro top is the Dynamic Transition layer, with foam sitting right on top of the 8.5-inch coil unit. There are also reinforced coils in the perimeter to give you better edge support if you like sleeping near the edge of the bed. Lastly, there’s an additional layer of foam acting as the base.

Our Take

“I would definitely have to shout out the cashmere cover. It’s a small detail that adds major comfort and luxury to the mattress.”

– Emma, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

  • Edge support – The perimeter of the Premier mattress feels sturdy and well-made. The coils go from edge to edge, with reinforcements along the perimeter where beds tend to collapse. This allows you to sit and sleep near the edge without feeling like you could roll off and fall.
  • The luxury feel – The DreamCloud Premier mattress may be more affordable than the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze®, but the luxury feel is right up there with the more expensive counterpart. The Premier has cooling, a balance of pressure relief and support, reinforced coils, and that middle-ground firmness that should fit most people. Oh, and let’s not forget the cashmere cover our team loved so much.

Potential Drawbacks

  • Not for stomach sleepers – The Premier has a medium firmness, and while that may work for many people, it may be too soft for those who like sleeping on their stomachs. If you’re a stomach sleeper and would like something like the Firm TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze®, the Premier may not be the best match.
  • Not for heavy sleepers – Heavier sleepers may also prefer something firmer because the Premier’s Euro top is likely to allow too much sinkage to keep the spine aligned. People over 230 pounds might find their hips sinking too deeply within the quilted cover, and unfortunately, there are no other firmness options as in the case of the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze®.

Why the Nolah Evolution Earned Best TEMPUR-Cloud® Alternative

The TEMPUR-Cloud® is available as an all-foam and hybrid mattress with a medium firmness. If you want a good alternative to the hybrid version, we think the Nolah Evolution should work well. Like the TEMPUR-Cloud®, Nolah’s Evolution model should deliver exceptional comfort through foam layers while the innerspring unit provides substantial support.

What's the Nolah Evolution Mattress Made Of?

The Nolah Evolution stands 15 inches high, making it significantly thicker than the TEMPUR-Cloud®. It also comes in three firmness options: Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm.

The Evolution’s cover is made of organic cotton and ArcticTex™ fibers for surface cooling. Under the cover is a 2-inch Euro-style pillow top that’s quilted to a soft foam.

Below this pillow top is a 2-inch layer of proprietary AirFoamICE™ for added cooling. This is followed by two more foam layers: a 2-inch layer of supportive high-resilience foam, and a 1-inch layer of buoyant transition foam.

The Evolution’s coils stands 8 inches high, and the innerspring unit is divided into zones that provide varying levels of pushback to different body areas. For example, the lower back can receive firmer support while lighter areas are able to receive softer support. Lastly, a base layer made of recycled plant fiber provides a sturdy foundation for the materials above.

Our Take

“When I crawled into this bed, I could really feel it gently cradle my body.”

 – Stuart, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

  • Pressure-relieving construction – We think the Nolah Evolution excels in pressure relief, as Stuart explained. This bed provides enough sinkage to take the strain off your sensitive points, such as hips and shoulders, while keeping your spine aligned by not allowing you to sink too deeply into the construction.
  • Cooling properties – One of the best things about this bed is its multiple temperature-regulating materials, such as the cooling cover and AirFoamICE™ foam. This should do wonders for hot sleepers who usually struggle to sleep well.

Potential Drawbacks

  • Not a good fit for stomach sleepers – Our team tested the Luxury Firm Nolah Evolution as this is most versatile feel. However, we found that it didn’t hold up as well for stomach sleeping. Stuart noted, ““Stomach sleepers may find that their hips and lower back sink pretty deep into this mattress, and it may not be the most comfortable for long-term sleep.” In this case, we’d advise going with the Firm model if you’re a regular stomach sleepers.
  • No all-foam version – While the TEMPUR-Cloud® comes in both all-foam and hybrid variations, the Nolah Evolution is solely available as a hybrid. However, if you’re interested in the Nolah brand and have your heart set on an all-foam bed, we recommend checking out their Nolah Original model.

Why the Nectar Earned Best TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® Alternative

The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® is one of the best Tempur-Pedic mattresses for pressure relief. This bed is 13 inches tall and has multiple comfort layers that help relieve pressure in the shoulders, hips, knees, and other sensitive areas.

If you’ve been eyeing this mattress but would like something more affordable, the Nectar memory foam bed may be your best bet. The Nectar is an inch thinner but equally comfortable and suitable for side sleepers. Our reviewer, Emma, said it offers gentle cradling, although it feels a bit firmer.

What's the Nectar Mattress Made Of?

The construction starts with a cooling cover made from polyethylene and a polyester and nylon blend. This is followed by a 2-inch thick unit of gel memory foam acting as the main comfort layer that contours your body. Next comes another 3 inches of premium foam for extra support and some bounce. Lastly, there’s a 7-inch base supporting the upper layers.

Our Take

“If you really need a lot of pressure relief and you want a bed that works to absorb your partner’s movement, this makes a great choice.”

– Emma, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

  • Excellent pressure relief – The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt®is one of the best choices for pressure relief, but the Nectar memory foam is not far behind. This all-foam bed has a plush cover with two inches of memory foam quilted to it. On top of that, it has another 10 inches of different foams delivering a good balance of pressure relief and support that should fit all side sleepers, including some over 230 pounds.
  • Affordable price – Tempur-Pedic is known to be among the most expensive brands, so it may not fit people with a more limited budget. On the other hand, Nectar offers high-quality mattresses for a more affordable price. This memory foam bed should fit most sleeping positions and different body frames, and the Queen is approximately 3,000 dollars cheaper.

Potential Drawbacks

  • Not ideal for heavy stomach sleepers – Stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds may find this bed too soft. The Nectar mattress has mid-range firmness we rate 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. Although it should work well for heavy-side sleepers, it may not offer enough support for those who like sleeping on their stomach.
  • Only one firmness option – Nectar comes in one firmness option, which may not be a dealbreaker for those who like its mid-range firmness. However, this is where it’s different from the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt®, being that the Tempur-Pedic mattress is available in Soft and Firm.

Why the Aurora Luxe Earned Best TEMPUR-ProBreeze® Alternative

The Aurora Luxe by Brooklyn Bedding is an excellent option if you want an alternative to the TEMPUR-ProBreeze®, especially if you choose the Medium model, which what our team tested. This bed is available in three firmness options, whereas the Tempur-Pedic mattress is only available in Medium and Medium Hybrid. The Aurora Luxe is 13 inches tall and should provide equal comfort levels for most side, back, and stomach sleepers, much like its Tempur-Pedic counterpart.

What's the Aurora Luxe Mattress Made Of?

This bed starts with a temperature-regulating cover made from proprietary GlacioTex™.
Sitting below the cover is a 1.5-inch thick layer of CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology. This latex-alternative foam is designed to provide both responsiveness and contouring.

Next is a second comfort foam that’s made of memory material and is 2 inches thick. This is followed by a transition layer of memory foam that’s infused with gel for added cooling.

The innerspring unit is comprised of over 1,000 Ascension® coils to deliver enhanced support and durability. Plus, the coils will naturally foster extra airflow. Lastly, a .75-inch foam base sits at the bottom of the mattress.

Our Take

“It’s one of the coolest sleeping mattresses that we’ve ever received. Truly … it’s so cold to the touch.”

– Emma, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

  • Multiple firmness levels – Although our team specifically tested the Medium model as its the most versatile, the Aurora Luxe is also available in Soft or Firm. By providing consumers with multiple firmness levels, this allows the bed to meet the needs of more sleepers. For instance, stomach sleepers who carry more weight may opt for the Firm Aurora Luxe, whereas petite side sleepers may prefer the Soft model.
  • Breathability and cooling – Right when you lie on the Aurora Luxe mattress, you should feel plenty of cooling. As Emma noted when testing this bed, “The cover feels noticeably cool to the touch.” As such, we think this bed could be an excellent choice for sleepers who run hot at night.

Potential Drawbacks

  • No all-foam option – The Aurora Luxe is a fantastic choice, but for some sleepers who prefer all-foam beds, the fact that it’s a hybrid may be a drawback. That being said, Brooklyn Bedding offers an appealing price point with the Aurora Luxe, especially considering that hybrids can run higher in price than all-foam models.
  • Some limited edge support – Julia from the Sleep Advisor team also got the opportunity to test out the Aurora Luxe first-hand. One of the qualities we look for in mattresses is edge support. While Julia noted that she felt secure while lying along the edge of this mattress, she said she didn’t feel as stable sitting on the edge.

What is a Tempur-Pedic Mattress Alternative?

A Tempur-Pedic mattress alternative is a mattress that offers a similar, if not the same, feel and experience using more or less the same features. As we said, Tempur-Pedic is a leader in the memory foam mattress industry, but its beds are a bit on the pricey point. For this reason, some people look for alternatives that feel somewhat similar to a Tempur-Pedic mattress but for a significantly lower price.

What to Look for In A Tempur-Pedic Mattress Alternative

Depending on the Tempur-Pedic mattress you’re interested in, an alternative can offer more or less the same feel. In most cases, we focused on finding alternatives that offer the same firmness and feel along with similar levels of motion isolation, edge support, bounce, and cooling.

The best way to find an alternative is to look at the features and specifications of the Tempur-Pedic bed you’re interested in and find a different mattress with those same elements at a price that fits your budget better.

Type of Mattress

all types of mattresses illustration

Innerspring Mattresses

Innerspring mattresses are a more traditional style. If you’re interested in a bouncy bed that’s supportive and budget-friendly, you should enjoy this mattress type. These beds are typically thinner since they don’t have much more than a coil unit followed by a single comfort layer above it, although you may come across different variations.

Hybrid Mattresses

Like innerspring beds, hybrid mattresses also have coils, but they’re different in that they have multiple comfort layers. As such, they can be much taller, even up to 14-16 inches.

The comfort layers are often either poly foam, memory foam, latex, or a combination of these materials. Overall, hybrid mattresses are good for people who want a combination of bounce and motion isolation since they have individually-wrapped coils and foam that help absorb movement.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory foam mattresses are among the most popular options for couples and those who need exceptional pressure relief. Memory foam has excellent motion-isolating properties that allow partners with different sleeping habits to share a bed without feeling each other’s tossing and turning as much. Although it has a bit of a bad reputation due to its heat retention, many manufacturers, including Tempur-Pedic, have found a way cool it by adding gel, copper, and cooling covers.

Latex Mattresses

Latex mattresses are popular among eco-friendly shoppers because natural latex comes from the sap of rubber trees. These beds are usually on the bouncy side as latex is responsive and comes back to its original shape quickly. One thing to point out is that latex beds are usually pricier than those made from memory foam, but this is not a rule, and there are expectations.

Latex mattresses can be made entirely out of latex or combined with memory foam, coils, and other materials.

Other Considerations When Shopping for a Tempur-Pedic Mattress Alternative

Sleeping Position

If you’re a side sleeper and a certain Tempur-Pedic mattress you’re interested in fits side sleepers, you should look for an alternative that’s accommodating for this sleeping position as well. The same goes for back and stomach sleepers. It’s always important to find a mattress that works well for your preferred sleeping position, offering support and pressure relief in the areas you need the most.

Weight/Body Type of Sleepers

Most mattresses have a certain weight limit, so you should check this for both the Tempur-Pedic bed you like and the alternative options we suggested. This way, you ensure that the mattress you choose can support you and potentially your partner if you share a bed.

On top of that, it’s also important that your mattress suits your body frame. For example, if you have broader shoulders, you may want a bed that offers more sinkage to prevent pressure from building up in this area.

Firmness

Mattress firmness is one of the most important things to look out for when buying a mattress. When shopping for a Tempur-Pedic alternative, it’s important to find a mattress with the same firmness level. In some cases, you may only be able to find one with similar firmness and feel, but depending on your preferred sleeping position, this should work just fine.

Keep in mind that some Tempur-Pedic beds and their alternatives are available in various firmness levels.

Cooling

You can find many cooling features in Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Some have a Tencel™ cover, open-cell foam, gel infusions, and more to keep the construction from overheating and make the bed more suitable for those who sleep hot.

When you look for an alternative, make sure it has the same or similar cooling features, so you can be comfortable during warm nights. Here, you can find our list of top-rated cooling mattresses.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation refers to a mattress’s ability to isolate motion from one side so that it’s not felt on the other side of the bed. This is typically done by including memory foam, which is among the best materials for absorbing movement.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses excel in this department, as many other beds do, so it’s easy to find an alternative that offers good motion isolation.

Sex

Sexually-active couples typically prefer beds with a good amount of bounce and pushback support. Although most Tempur-Pedic mattresses focus more on motion isolation than buoyancy, you can find many that offer some bounce as well. This is because they come in various firmness options, all of which give you different levels of pushback support.

With Tempur-Pedic alternatives, there are numerous mattress types available for those who want a bouncier bed. Innerspring, hybrid, and latex options are often best for this.

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is one of the top characteristics people look for in a mattress, particularly for side sleepers because most of the person’s weight is centered in a smaller area.

Tempur-Pedic beds excel in pressure relief because they’re made from quality memory foam and premium materials that help relieve tension in the most sensitive areas. However, it’s not difficult to find an alternative that offers equally good pressure relief for a lower price.

Edge Support

Edge support is another common feature most co-sleepers look for. When a bed has sturdy edges, it allows you to spread across the entire surface without feeling like you could roll off if you come near the perimeter. Although memory foam beds don’t have such sturdy edges as hybrids and innersprings, they can still do well in this department if the memory foam has a high density.

Budget

Budget is usually the number one reason people choose to look for Tempur-Pedic alternatives. These beds are expensive, with some Queen models being over 4,000 dollars. Not everyone can afford this price, so it’s common to look for an alternative option that can work equally well for a lower price.
