We rate mattresses on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the firmest. Stuart rated the Bear Elite Hybrid a 6-7 out of 10 based on our firmness scale, which means it’s medium-firm to slightly firm. This mid-range firmness is good for many people but more specifically, those who prefer firmer support with a plush cover and upper layers that hug the body.
The Elite Hybrid offers gentle cradling, so it’s ideal for those with pressure build-up, hip pain, and back pain. In addition, most people should like the high responsiveness, making it a viable option for combination sleepers and people with mobility issues. This bed also comes in Soft and Firm.
How Does It Feel?
Although this hybrid is on the firmer side, its upper layers, starting with the plush cover, feel softer. The bed doesn’t require a lot of pressure to hug the body, allowing you to sink in just enough to relieve sensitive joints and muscles.
You can feel the most resistance at about 4 to 6 inches, which ensures your body is still well supported, although the upper layers are plush. According to Stuart, this hybrid has “the best of both worlds.” He goes on to say, “It’s got a familiar mattress feeling with plushness in the cover and foam layers, but quick response and support from the springs.“

Your shoulders, knees, and hips are the most sensitive areas prone to pressure buildup, especially if you sleep on the side. The Bear Elite Hybrid does a good job of alleviating the pressure by allowing you to sink a bit into the hand-quilted cover and the copper-infused memory foam underneath.
According to Stuart, “It’s built to relieve pressure in the areas you sleep on and support the areas that need a little extra boost, specifically the lumbar area.”
Is the Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
How well the Bear Elite Hybrid relieves pain depends on the kind of pain you’re experiencing, along with your body type and weight. If the firmness of this mattress doesn’t align with your weight and body shape, it might make the pain worse. However, we believe the Bear Elite Hybrid could help with pain relief as long as its mid-range firmness is taken into account.
Back Pain
When it comes to back pain, you should be careful that your spine is aligned and in a neutral position. This way, you’re less likely to wake up in pain, especially if you sleep on your back. The Bear Elite Hybrid has sturdy coils that help ensure your back is straight without creating any pressure in the lumbar area.

The durable design enhances the overall longevity of this bed. The support system combined with the foams makes for a bed with no weight limitations. As a result, this hybrid should accommodate solo sleepers and couples alike.

Motion transfer can make it difficult to fall asleep if you share a bed with a restless sleeper or someone who changes positions throughout the night. The Bear Elite Hybrid eliminates this problem by adding two foam layers above the individually wrapped coils. In addition, the top quilted cover is thick and plush, helping to prevent movement from transferring.
The coils are individually wrapped, which allows them to move independently, so it’s unlikely you’ll feel your partner tossing and turning at night.

The Bear Elite Hybrid has a combination of coils and foams, which in itself helps to keep the construction cool and ventilated. The coils in the mattress help provide enough bounce to make repositioning or getting in and out of bed easier. Meanwhile, the foam on top dampens some of that bounce, so that you don’t get so much motion transfer across the mattress. “The bed’s responsive, but there’s minimal motion transfer across the surface compared to a typical innerspring bed,” noted Stuart.

Although you might feel slight compression when sitting, lying feels pretty secure, with Stuart emphasizing that this means you can really take advantage of the bed’s entire surface. Construction: What’s Inside the Bear Elite Hybrid?
The Bear Elite Hybrid is 14 inches tall, so it’s not the tallest or thinnest mattress out there. This makes it a good fit for most foundations and bedrooms, as it doesn’t look too bulky. The first layer is a hand-quilted cooling cover that adds a bit of plush comfort you’ll feel the first time you lie on the mattress. The cover is designed to keep you cool and aid in pressure relief.
- Below the hand-quilted top is a layer of copper-infused memory foam that has antimicrobial properties and helps with cooling. The memory foam allows a bit of cradling to help with pressure relief without letting your heaviest parts sink in.
- Next is the Dynamic Transition Foam, which contours and supports the body while also providing a gentle transition to the coils. This layer ensures you get the best of the coil unit without bottoming out.
- The coil unit features individually encased coils that move separately, which allows them to better adapt to your body. The higher-gauge coils in the center of the bed provide excellent lumbar support while aiding in motion isolation. The edges are also reinforced with higher-gauge coils.
- The base is made from high-density foam and serves as a solid foundation for the upper layers. This layer supports all the others while also enhancing the bed’s durability.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Bear Elite Hybrid comes rolled and packed in a box. This way, it’s easier to handle and carry from your doorstep to the bedroom.
Before unpacking, bring it to your foundation of choice, where it can unroll and decompress. Once you remove the packaging, the mattress will decompress on its own. This can last 24 to 48 hours, depending on how long it was in the box.
When it comes to off-gassing, we didn’t notice any smell when first opening the package. If you do, simply let it rest in a ventilated room, and any off-gassing should dissipate by the time the mattress fully decompresses.
