Who I Recommend The WinkBed For:
- Hot sleepers – The WinkBed has individually pocketed springs and gel infusions in the pillow top to help keep you cool. With a Tencel© fabric cover, this mattress goes all out for cooling.
- Combination sleepers – The Luxury Firm WinkBed is versatile enough to support a variety of sleeping positions, possibly reducing the number of times you wake up at night. However, I think some side sleepers might want a softer model.
- People seeking customization – The WinkBed is available in Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm, and Plus. This makes it an excellent option for sleepers of varying body types and sleep preferences.
- Couples – The WinkBed features an Extra-Edge™ Support System built into the coil units. The system contains more supportive coils along the perimeter of the mattresses, which I think increases the sleepable surface area, meaning more room to spread out.
Who I Don’t Recommend The WinkBed For:
- Memory foam fans – The foams in this bed do not include memory foam, which means it might not provide that slow-sinking feel some folks prefer. From my experience, the WinkBed keeps you more elevated than making you feel cushioned and cradled.
- Budget shoppers – WinkBeds is a brand that offers shoppers a lot of design variety and customization, but if you’re on a smaller budget and looking for a more affordable mattress, the slightly higher price point may put you off.
Customer Reviews of the WinkBed Mattress
On the WinkBeds site, the WinkBed has over 8,500 reviews and a score of 4.8 out of 5 stars.
Customers loved the comfort, support, and customer service. Some of the complaints centered on it being firmer than the consumer was expecting.
Testing the WinkBed Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
I tested the WinkBed mattress for lightweight sleepers, while my colleagues Julia Forbes and Spencer Bland evaluated how it performed for average-weight and heavyweight sleepers, respectively. We tried this bed in different sleeping positions to see how it reacts and adapts to curves. This helped me decide if the bed relieves pressure or creates it.
We also tested for motion isolation, edge support, cooling, and bounce to get the best picture of how the WinkBed would fit couples, hot sleepers, combination sleepers, and people with mobility issues.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10 (Luxury Firm)
At Sleep Advisor, we rate mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. The term “mattress firmness” reflects how soft or hard the mattress feels. The Luxury Firm WinkBed I tried out falls at 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This gives it a medium-firm rating that I think could work well for many people since it has a more middle-of-the-road feel.
I’ve also created the chart below to help you match your sleeping position to the ideal WinkBed firmness option.
SLEEPING POSITION | BEST WINKBED FIRMNESS OPTION |
Side Sleeper | Softer and Luxury Firm |
Back Sleeper | Luxury Firm |
Stomach Sleeper | Firm and Plus |
Combination Sleeper | Luxury Firm |
How Does The WinkBed Mattress Feel?
Settling into the mattress, most sleepers should experience some gentle contouring from the foam Euro top. This bed feels bouncy and buoyant, and the top layer adds a bed-rotting level of comfort.
When you first get your WinkBed, the foam may feel a little firm. Don’t worry; most mattresses go through a break-in period during which the foams begin to soften. WinkBed suggests rotating your mattress every two months for the first three months, and then you can cut back to every two months.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to WinkBeds, all of their mattresses can support up to 900 pounds total.
Side Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | Although I felt a little pressure around my shoulders, I found this mattress very cozy overall. I think that the Soft model may eliminate that for me. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | Julia liked how this mattress evenly distributed her weight. Even though it was soft and cushioned around her shoulder and hip, her back didn’t feel as if it was sinking. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Spencer said, “It’s a little stiff, but definitely not terrible.” However, given the pressure build-up around his shoulders, he thinks he would be better off on the WinkBed Plus. |
Back Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | When I tested this bed on my back, the combination of foam and coils made me feel comfortable and aligned. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | Julia loved how this bed was both supportive and soft. “I was really digging how elevated I was while still feeling the ample cushioning,” she mentioned. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Spencer summed it up succinctly, “Great for the back. Full stop.” |
Stomach Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | As a lightweight sleeper, I often don’t feel as much cushioning as I would like. However, the WinkBed’s pillow top, provides a lot of cushioning around my hips, while the coils keep me elevated. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | Julia felt light cushioning around her hips, but she didn’t sink too far down, which led to great overall alignment. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Spencer advised that the WinkBed Luxury Firm is too soft for heavy people. This could cause them to sink too far down in the bed, possibly hyperextending their lower back. |
Pressure Relief
4/5
I rolled out the pressure relief map, a tool we use to gauge the amount of pressure present around different parts of the body. Julia, Spencer, and I took turns testing the WinkBed in different sleeping positions. Areas indicated in blue and green suggest that the testers are experiencing minimal pressure, whereas red and yellow show that they are feeling more.
We all felt that this bed offered the best pressure relief to back sleepers and heavyweight side sleepers. Julia and I think that the Soft version of this mattress would likely be better for light and average-weight side sleepers.
Spencer, on the other hand, suggests that heavier side and stomach sleepers may want to opt for the Firm or Plus offerings. Overall, I was pleased with the pressure relief, but because we agreed that other options might be better for some weight categories and sleep positions, I deducted one point.
Learn More: Best Mattresses for Pressure Relief
Is the WinkBed Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
I think the WinkBed mattress could be great for pain relief. This bed has a combination of pressure-relieving foams and zoned support to distribute your weight evenly.
Back Pain | People struggling with back pain need sturdy support, especially if the pain is in the lower back. The WinkBed features a Euro top with 2 inches of plush foam that cradles the body just enough to relieve pain and pressure. Read more about mattresses for back pain here. |
Hip Pain | When it comes to hip pain, a mid-range firmness can provide support and pressure relief to soothe the pain and prevent it from increasing. The most important factor is maintaining a healthy sleep posture while easing pressure, and one of the three WinkBed models should help you achieve that. Read more about mattresses for hip pain here. |
Shoulder Pain | I think the WinkBed could help with shoulder pain, but it’s important you choose the right firmness level for your preferred sleeping position. For example, lighter-weight side sleepers should consider the Soft model. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here. |
Support
5/5
WinkBed’s zoned support designed offers top-of-the-line weight distribution and alignment. Loren, Spencer, and I were all impressed with the support we experienced on this bed.
This mattress uses individually wrapped pocketed coils that provide targeted back support, additional resistance to heavier areas of the body, and less pushback around the lighter parts. With how well it supported all three body types, the WinkBed earned a perfect score here.
Motion Isolation
3/5
I used a seismograph app to record the amount of motion that transferred from one side of the bed to the other. After my fellow testers and I moved around on the bed, we weren’t surprised that the WinkBed only had average motion isolation considering how bouncy and responsive this mattress is.
The mattress earned an average score because the foam layers absorbed some of the motion, but we still noticed some obvious spikes on our seismograph reading too. To sum it up, I think that couples and co-sleepers will feel most of their partner’s tossing and turning due to the responsive coils.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
I would say the WinkBed is a cooling mattress. As a hybrid, it’s already more breathable than classic memory foam models, and I didn’t feel super overheated on this bed.
The WinkBed is equiped with specific temperature-regulating features, includding gel-infused foam, coils, and a Tencel© cover. Tencel© is often found in cooling mattresses because it’s breathable and moisture-wicking, which is important for hot sleepers who sweat a lot.
I gave it a solid 4 here because I think it’s a good cooling bed, but I know there are some even more advanced ones out there too.
Bounce
5/5
Bouncy beds typically allow you to move around and reposition more easily, making them a great choice for combination sleepers, those with mobility issues, and sexually active couples. We conducted three bounce tests on the WinkBed, including dropping a lacrosse ball and a medicine ball and jumping on the bed.
I was very impressed with how much bounce the mattress’s coils provided, even with the comfortable foam top layers. This means you’re likely to experience gentle contouring and easy repositioning. I call that a win-win, and it earned the WinkBed a 5 for bounce.
Edge Support
4.5/5
To test the bed’s edge support, Spencer, Julia, and I sat on the edge of the bed and tied our shoes for a minute to evaluate how much we sank into the mattress. When we were finished, we lay on the side to determine how secure we felt. The WinkBed’s reinforced edges really paid off, as the three of us felt supported and secured along the perimeter.
Seniors, people with mobility issues, and couples who like to spread out will appreciate the edge support keeping them secure near the edge of the bed.
In my opinion, this is as close as it gets to Saatva’s gold-standard edge support.
Accessibility
4/5
To gauge accessibility, I look at how the mattress and the manufacturer set themselves apart from their competitors. The WinkBed is offered in four firmness options, which means excellent versatility for consumers. The bed is compatible with almost every type of bed frame. Consumers also get a full replacement lifetime warranty and durability promise. WinkBed also has financing available.
I deducted a point because set-up and haul-away options are not available. This could cause problems for those who live alone and don’t have someone to help them move the bed.
Customer Service
5/5
WinkBed does customer service so well that I gave them our top score. The customer service reps were fast, friendly, and knowledgeable via all channels including online chat, call or email.
Although WinkBed’s sleep trial isn’t as long as others, I think 120 days is generous enough to not deduct points. The company’s full mattress replacement lifetime warranty shows how much they believe in their product.
Performance for Couples
4/5
The WinkBed has a lot to offer couples. It has incredible bounce, which is great for sexually active couples because this feature allows for easy repositioning during intimate moments. It also gets high marks for cooling and edge support, the latter means that co-sleepers can use the entire surface of the bed.
However, the lack of motion isolation meant that I deducted a performance point since those with restless partners may be disturbed by the motion created by the other person’s tossing and turning.

Are WinkBeds Mattresses Durable?
I can only speak to how I think this mattress will hold up compared to the dozens of others I have tested. Using those guidelines, I feel that the WinkBed mattress should be very durable for long-term use. It employs high-end materials and top-notch construction to create a bed that should solidly perform for years to come.
The WinkBed brand also believes in the quality of their mattress so much that they offer a lifetime warranty and a DuraTech™ Lifetime Durability system, which indicates that a third party has tested the foams and innersprings for long-term durability.
What Makes Winkbed Mattresses Stand Out?
- Lifetime warranty – WinkBed mattresses come with a full replacement lifetime warranty. WinkBed states that if your mattress is defective at any point over the span of its life, the company will replace it at no cost to you.
- Bedframe compatibility – As long as your frame has a rigid center support, it should work with a WinkBed. This includes traditional frames, slatted frames, and adjustable frames. Also, if you’re in the market for a new frame, WinkBed offers those, too.
- Made to order – All WinkBed mattresses are made in factories in Arizona, Connecticut, Texas, or Wisconsin. The company uses high-quality, American-sourced, and eco-friendly materials.
Preference-Based Features
Multiple Firmness Options
Soft
The Soft option features a soft, contouring Euro-top with cooling and pressure-relieving fel foam, making it an excellent choice for lightweight and side sleepers.
Luxury Firm
If you love the plush but supportive feel of a hotel bed, the Luxury Firm option should be a good choice for you. It is versatile and universally appealing and is an excellent choice for back sleepers.
Firm
Using targeted zones that provide the right amount of support, WinkBed’s Firm bed is great for average-weight and heavyweight stomach sleepers. It also keeps you elevated so that you feel that you’re sleeping on your bed and not in your bed.
Plus
WinkBed uses high density foams and targeted steel coils to provide an excellent sleeping surface for those weighing more than 250 pounds.
Euro Top
This hybrid’s Euro top features 2 inches of gel-infused foam to keep pressure and heat from building up. The firmness of this layer depends on the model you choose, but it’s generally meant to provide cushioning support that doesn’t allow pressure to accumulate.
Eco-Conscious Materials
The WinkBed cover is made from Tencel©, a sustainably produced and biodegradable material. The cover is also OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1 certified, which means the material is safe enough for children. Additionally, all the foams have a CertiPUR-US® certification, verifying that they contain safe amounts of potentially harmful substances.
Adjustable Base Compatible
WinkBed is compatible with several top rated adjustable bases so long as it has a solid or slatted base. The company also sells an adjustable base on its website for those interested in a new frame.
Construction: What’s Inside The WinkBed Mattress?
The cover of the WinkBed is made with Tencel©, a breathable and eco-friendly textile made from eucalyptus trees and meant to wick away moisture to keep you cool and dry while you sleep. The Tencel© fabric is quilted to 2 inches of gel-infused foam, creating this bed’s luxurious and cooling Euro-style pillow top.
Each WinkBed mattress is handcrafted, so the dimensions may vary slightly, but all three models (the Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm) are approximately 13.5 inches tall. The following specifications refer to the Luxury Firm option I tested.
- The Euro top features 2 inches of plush gel-infused foam. The gel in this layer should prevent heat build-up around your body to keep you cool during the night while also providing softness for those who need relief from sensitive pressure points.
- The innerspring unit features 8-inch individually wrapped coils that also come with zone support for the back. The zoned support is designed to push back in areas with increased pressure. This layer has 5 zone support areas in total.
- The perimeter features the Extra-Edge™ Support system with coils providing excellent edge support so that you can sit and sleep near the edge of the bed.
Note that the Soft version of the bed will have an additional 2 inches of special foam for enhanced pressure relief. The Firm option will have a more solid Euro top to prevent unnecessary sinkage into the bed.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Each WinkBed is made to order and is compressed and rolled into a box for shipping. I love this as it makes it easier to handle, especially when it comes to moving the package from your doorstep to the bedroom.
When you first open it, you’ll notice it’s compressed, and there may even be some off-gassing. However, the mattresses should be ready for use in 24 hours, which is how long it takes to reach full size and for all off-gassing smells to dissipate.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – This product received the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1 certification for its cover, which is the highest standard. This represents that the textiles in the cover are free of harmful substances. Additionally, the foams in WinkBed are CertiPUR-US® Certified, meaning they have been evaluated by a third party and found to have a safe amount of potentially harmful substances, protecting your indoor air quality.

WinkBed FAQs
Is the WinkBed good for back pain?
Yes! The WinkBed should provide great relief to those experiencing back pain thanks to its sturdy and zoned coils. The zones are designed to offer additional push back around heavier parts of the body and less near the lighter parts. It also has a plush Euro top made from contouring foam that gently cradles sleepers and provides pressure relief.
Is WinkBeds a good brand?
I think WinkBeds is a good brand that specializes in high-quality mattresses made from premium materials. The brand also offers a lengthy 120-night trial and a lifetime warranty with their mattresses, giving customers time and peace of mind knowing they have a quality bed that should last a long time.
How long does a WinkBeds mattress last?
WinkBeds mattresses should last seven to eight years with proper use and care. In other words, I think rotating the bed and not letting the kids jump on it should help prolong its lifespan. Also, make sure you stay within the weight recommendations to avoid damage.
Is the WinkBed good for heavy people?
The WinkBed Firm can be a good option for heavy people since it can handle the most weight without too much sinkage. However, the company also sells the WinkBed Plus, which is a mattress made specifically for heavy people.
Do you need a box spring with the WinkBed?
You don’t have to use a box spring with the WinkBed, but you can if you want to. The mattress works on any sturdy foundation, including an adjustable base for those who want more customizable comfort.

My Verdict of the WinkBed Mattress
The WinkBed mattress is a versatile bed that should fit all sleeping positions. After testing it, I think it’s a worthy model for people seeking pressure relief, support, comfort, and cooling. The WinkBed should serve back sleepers of all body types well, and it earned an overall score of 4.3 out of 5.
This hybrid offers the best of both worlds: pressure relief for those sleeping on their side and back, while the coil unit keeps the body supported in all postures. This construction also lends to airflow, which helps regulate temperature.
Although it is more expensive than some other choices on the market, its lifetime warranty and overall durability can offset some of that cost, making it a good option if you’re after quality and a luxurious look.
