Zenhaven Construction

This mattress ships fully formed and uncompressed.

The organic cotton cover features an inch of New Zealand wool that should help regulate the temperature of this 10-inch bed. This product can be flipped to create either a Gentle Firm or Luxury Plush feel. We will talk about the construction as though the Luxury Plush option is being used.

  • The top layer contains a 1.5-inch Talalay latex which features a “5-Zone Comfort Layer.” Pinholes of varying densities are used to create firmer or softer areas that allow more or less compression as-needed to provide enhanced comfort, pressure relief, or support.
  • The second layer holds a 3-inch Talalay latex. This should provide soft support that minimizes pressure in concentrated areas.
  • The third layer consists of another 3-inch Talalay latex meant to feel firmer than the material immediately above it. This makes up the Gentle Firm setting when the mattress is flipped.
  • The base layer holds a 1.5-inch Talalay latex, also boasting 5 comfort zones. This material provides a firmer feel when acting as the top of this item, and contribute to support when used on the bottom.

Nest Bedding Owl Construction

This bed-in-a-box hybrid is made up of coils, latex, and foam.

The organic cotton cover holds a 1.5-inch EcoFlex foam quilted into it that should provide a gentle, pressure-relieving cradle. The total height of this mattress is 12.5 inches.

This product is available in medium, firm, or plush options, all of which should contain a similar construction. We will mainly discuss the medium comfort option, as that should be the most versatile feel. This bed also comes in an organic construction, which varies in its specifications slightly.

  • The initial layer consists of a 3-inch Dunlop latex that is designed to offer more or less compression based on your weight and position.
  • The second layer is an inch of Comfort Foam that acts as a barrier between the latex and coil system.
  • The third layer holds a 6-inch Caliber™ Edge coil system. This system utilizes an individually pocketed design to allow the coils to react independently to the sleeper’s movements. This should provide pressure relief or support where needed, along with isolating energy to reduce motion transfer.
  • The base layer is a final 1-inch Transitional Foam that helps to further absorb motion transfer from the upper coil system.
  • The perimeter uses reinforced coils to promote an even, consistent feel across the entire surface of the bed.

Comparing Firmness (Support & Feel)

Both beds have been placed on our comfort (firmness) scale, using a system that assigns a score between 1 and 10 to determine the feel of each mattress. This assumes that 1 is very soft and 10 is very firm.

The all-foam is a double-sided product with different comfort levels on either side. The Gentle Firm option should has a score of 7, which should feel medium-firm to firm to most shoppers. The Luxury Plush setting is ranked at 4.5, which should feel medium-soft. The hybrid is available in a soft 3, medium 5.5, or a firm 8.5.

Sleepers of all kinds should be able to find a comfort setting that works for them in either mattress. If having multiple comfort options always available is a big draw, Zenhaven’s dual-sided design should be the option for you.

Both beds should feel soft, plush, and temperature-neutral thanks to the foam and wool inside the covers. The zoned comfort material in the all-foam and the hybrid’s individually pocketed coils should provide alternating compression or support depending on the sleeper’s position. The foams in either mattress should reshape easily, fully forming to reduce body impressions.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

The foam used in the Zenhaven should allow a bit more sinkage, resulting in a deep hug on the softer side. Whereas the firmer version allows less sinkage, closer to a gentle cradle. Nest Bedding’s hybrid’s Medium feel should also offer less sinkage, resulting in a gentle cradle, allowing shoppers to float on top of the mattress.

Combination sleepers should have no issues moving around on either mattress. However, if mobility is a major concern, the hybrid should be the way to go thanks to the combination of minimal sinkage and the higher levels of bounce offered by the coils. The all-foam latex product should provide a moderate level of bounce.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Because of the springy nature of the latex used in these products, either bed should allow moderate levels of motion transfer. However, most shoppers should be able to rest undisturbed using either latex model. Very sensitive sleepers should opt for Zenhaven as its all-foam construction may offer more motion control than the coils inside the hybrid.

Comparing Edge Support

Couples or people who like to hug the edge of the bed when sleeping tend to prefer solid edge support so they can sprawl out without worrying about slipping off the mattress. Zenhaven may allow some compression when lying along the edge but overall shoppers should feel well-supported.

The hybrid should be a great option for anyone seeking enhanced edge support as the reinforced coils around the edges should prevent too many compressions, promoting edge-to-edge consistency.

Should I Buy Zenhaven or Nest Bedding?

Ready to choose between the all-foam or hybrid mattress? Here are a few suggestions as to which types of sleepers should be best-served by either bed.

We Would Recommend Buying Zenhaven if You are Looking for:

  • Dual-sided comfort options. This mattress can be flipped to allow buyers to choose between a medium-soft or a medium-firm to firm feel.
  • Zoned comfort layers. The upper materials on either side are zoned to create firmer or softer support. This should promote a neutral spinal alignment while relieving pressure.
  • More motion isolation. This all foam construction is likely to eliminate most motion transfer and may perform better than a hybrid construction.

We Would Recommend Buying Nest Bedding Owl  if You are Looking for:

  • Multiple comfort options. This item is sold in soft, medium, or firm versions, allowing shoppers to choose the comfort level that best matches their position preference.
  • Personalized support in a hybrid. The coils inside this mattress are designed to react independently to your movements or position. This should allow the coils to compress or pushback as-needed.
  • A more organic option. Buyers have the choice to upgrade this model to a more organic construction which has multiple certifications to ensure a more natural sleeping space.

Final Thoughts

Both brands offer personalized relief and compression. The wool and cotton covers of either bed should also provide temperature regulation and a plush initial feel.

Zenhaven should be a great choice for fans of either a deep hug or gentle cradle, dual-sided comfort, and enhanced motion control. Nest should work well for those who want a gentle cradle, sturdy coils, and enhanced edge support.
