Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

Avocado feels like a 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which should feel medium-firm or firm to most shoppers. The zoned coils promise a comfortable experience for any position preference by offering support or pressure relief where they need it most.

On the other hand, WinkBed’s Luxury Firm option feels like a 6.5, which is very similar to the Avocado mattress. The company rates their softer model a 4.5, which should feel medium or medium-soft, while their firmer option is scored 7.5.

Support

Both beds have zoned support, so you can expect to feel an even weight distribution. WinkBed has a pocketed coil unit that ensures proper spine alignment in different sleeping positions. This is the bed’s main support system, but keep in mind that it varies depending on the firmness model you choose.

Avocado doesn’t lack in the support department either. This bed has a hybrid design with over 1,400 coils with three different gauges that provide five ergonomic zones.

Feel

The WinkBed should allow you to sink into the pillow top slowly and easily. With this, you’re likely to feel a gentle cradle and contouring, especially if you sleep on the side. The hypersoft foam in this pillow top helps with pressure relief. In addition, the coils add bounce and responsiveness.

The Avocado mattress is made from latex instead of foam, so it’s bouncier than the WinkBed model. The zoned coils contour the body, offering variable support levels.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

The Avocado offers ample bounce that helps to push sleepers back to the top of the bed, preventing them from feeling “stuck” in the bed. This mattress has coils like the WinkBed model, but the difference is in the fact that latex is bouncier than memory foam.

On the contrary, WinkBed’s upper materials dampen the bounce a little, but the coil system provides a deep level of bounce that aids mobility. There’s less sinkage, but you should still feel ample pressure relief from the pillow top.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Those with restless partners often require enhanced motion control to isolate movement and vibration. Most people should feel comfortable on either mattress, especially now that the WinkBed has replaced the extra coil unit with foam, which should help control additional movement.

Avocado has latex above the coils, and latex is a bouncy and responsive material. Although it does isolate some motion, it doesn’t isolate it as well as memory foam does. For this reason, WinkBed may be better for restless sleepers, light sleepers, couples, and co-sleepers.

Comparing Cooling

Both of these beds should work well for hot sleepers, although the WinkBed may be a slightly better choice. The Avocado mattress is made from latex, which is a naturally breathable material. Plus, it has coils that enhance breathability and airflow so that the construction doesn’t overheat. This bed also has wool that helps with temperature regulation.

The WinkBed, on the other hand, takes cooling to the next level. This bed has a Tencel™ cover that’s cool to the touch. The foam also has gel infusions and an open-cell structure to keep the air circulating while also dispersing your body heat.

Avocado Construction

This GOLS-certified latex and steel coil hybrid is a mattress that comes in a box, which means it’s compressed and shipped inside a box.

The organic cotton cover contains a layer of wool to provide natural temperature regulation. This mattress is 11 inches in height.

• The top layer holds a 2-inch Dunlop latex designed to promote airflow and pressure relief. This makes the top responsive, allowing easy repositioning.
• The second layer offers zoned comfort using varying gauges in these 8-inch Steel Coils. This promises enhanced pressure relief for the shoulders, with extra support given to the hips. The company helps to reduce waste by using upcycled steel to create these springs.
• The bottom layer uses a 1-inch Dunlop latex that is slightly firmer than comfort material to create a stable base for the entire mattress.
• The perimeter promises a consistent feel from edge to edge, thanks to the reinforced coils placed around the outside of the mattress.

WinkBed Construction

Similar to the Avocado, this foam and steel coil hybrid is compressed and boxed for easy shipping. The cover boasts temperature-regulating Tencel™ fabric. A 2-inch thick EuroTop made of Hypersoft gel foam is quilted into the cover.

The Luxury Firm is 13.5 inches tall, and you should expect some slight variation in height among the different firmness choices. This guide highlights the Luxury Firm construction specifically.

• The initial layer boasts 2 inches of plush gel-infused foam that offers a gentle cradle as you lie on the bed.
• The second layer contains 2.5 inches of SupportCell foam for added pressure relief.
• The innerspring layer utilizes tempered steel coils to promote bounce and airflow. These 8-inch springs provide support and promote motion control through their pocketed design.
• The base layer uses 1 inch of polyfoam to help absorb some movement from the above coils and to act as a foundation for the rest of the bed.

• Warranty – WinkBed offers a lifetime warranty with this mattress, while the Avocado bed comes with a 25-year warranty.
• Shipping – Avocado ships this organic mattress throughout the USA, including Hawaii and Alaska. WinkBed only ships within the contiguous US.
• Trial Period – WinkBed gives you 120 nights to test its hybrid while you get a full year to test the Avocado.
• Returns – Returns are free if you return the Avocado mattress within the trial. However, you have to keep it for at least 30 days. On the other hand, WinkBed charges a fee for returning the bed.
• Price – Avocado is slightly more expensive than the WinkBed. In a Queen-size, the Avocado is about 200 dollars more. This doesn’t come as a shock since the Avocado uses organic and natural materials, which tend to be more pricey.
