Who I’d Recommend the Sealy Posturepedic For

Combination sleepers – We think this mattress provides great support to maintain proper spine alignment while the memory foam still creates a cushioned, comfortable feel, making this adaptable for multiple positions. Also, the bounce provided by the coil system should make it easier for combination sleepers to change sleeping positions without feeling stuck in the mattress.
Couples – We really like this bed for couples because it has pretty solid edge support, which is important for couples who want to use the entire sleeping surface without feeling like they’re going to fall off the bed. Not only that, but the motion isolation from this bed should prevent couples from being disturbed by each other’s movements, and the bounce from the coiled design may be preferred by sexually-active couples.
People who like a responsive feel – The slight bounce and 900+ coils in this bed deliver a responsive feel that allows for easier repositioning throughout the night. Along with combination sleepers and couples, other people who may want a more responsive mattress are those with limited mobility.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10. Based on our testing, we rated the TEMPUR-Cloud® a 6.5, which is medium-firm. We only tested the Soft version of the Sealy Posturepedic, but our rating for that version is a 5, which is still a medium feel that’s softer than the TEMPUR-Cloud®.

The Sealy Posturepedic is also available in a Firm model, which we think could be better for stomach sleepers and those who carry more weight. However, we think that other sleepers, especially lighter-weight side and back sleepers, could enjoy the Soft Sealy Posturepedic.

Support

The memory foam in both of these mattresses provides relatively good support, especially for light and average-weight individuals. However, heavyweight sleepers potentially won’t find these mattresses to be supportive enough.

The Sealy Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Cloud® have great edge support, which means you can spread out to the edges of your bed without feeling like you’re falling off. Sealy has slightly better edge support due to the coiled design, but TEMPUR-Cloud®’s edge support is still reliable, especially for a memory foam bed.

Feel

When our reviewer laid down on the Sealy Posturepedic mattress, she immediately noticed that it targeted support to different areas of her body due to the responsive coil system. She also felt the top memory foam layer molding itself to the contours of her body.

As we tested the TEMPUR-Cloud® mattress, we noted that the foam delicately contours to every curve, which alleviates pressure. It feels like a great mix of comfort and support.

The TEMPUR-Cloud® mattress is a bed that offers sleepers a deep hug, and the Soft Sealy Posturepedic mattress fosters more of a gentle cradle. Moreover, the Firm model of the Sealy Posturepedic may offer even less cradling.

In terms of bounce, the Sealy Posturepedic is definitely bouncier than the TEMPUR-Cloud®. Sealy’s encased-coil base facilitates responsiveness, which should help with repositioning and getting out of bed.

The TEMPUR-Cloud®, on the other hand, doesn’t provide bounce because of its all-foam design. There are no materials in this bed that allow for bounce and responsiveness.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Motion isolation occurs when a mattress isolates movement so that two people are less likely to disturb each other throughout the night. We feel that both the Sealy Posturepedic and the TEMPUR-Cloud® mattresses have really great motion isolation.

The Sealy Posturepedic’s hybrid design has great motion isolation because of the memory foam layers, which can be beneficial to couples who want to minimize disruptions.

However, if you are going to pick one of these beds based on motion isolation, we recommend the TEMPUR-Cloud® mattress. This bed excels in reducing motion transfer based on its all-foam construction, which is fantastic for absorbing movement.

Comparing Cooling

Temperature regulation and cooling qualities are important features for people who often struggle to sleep because they feel too hot at night.

Typically, foam mattresses don’t circulate heat very well because they don’t allow much airflow. TheTEMPUR-Cloud® mattress isn’t our favorite bed for hot sleepers. It does include a 360° stretchy, breathable cover that helps with cooling, though.

Sealy Posturepedic Construction

The Sealy Posturepedic is a 13-inch hybrid bed that contains both a coiled design and memory foam layers. This bed is topped with a quilted mattress cover that uses SealyChill™ cooling technology with cool-to-the-touch fibers designed to regulate body temperature.

Below the cooling cover, there is a ComfortSense™ gel memory foam layer that conforms to your body to help relieve pressure in sensitive areas. This memory foam contains gel, which helps keep the material cool so you can sleep more comfortably throughout the night. This layer also provides excellent motion isolation, which means you shouldn’t feel much movement transfer from one side of the bed to the other.
The base is a layer of more than 900 encased coils designed to help with airflow, edge support, and overall body support. Motion isolation is further supported by this layer due to the separately encased coils.

TEMPUR-Cloud® Construction

The 10-inch TEMPUR-Cloud® bed is topped with a 360° stretchy, breathable cover that promotes cooling. While this cover is a helpful addition to the TEMPUR-Cloud®, keep in mind that overall, we don’t feel this bed will provide as much cooling. Below the cover, the mattress consists of three foam layers.

The first foam layer is made up of slow-moving Tempur® material, the brand’s proprietary memory foam. This soft foam layer offers cushion and is responsive to your movements, cradling the body. This memory foam is an excellent choice for side sleepers or people who seek pressure relief.
Next, is the slow-moving support layer, which is made of a firmer Tempur® material foam that assists with spine support and relieves pressure in sensitive areas by adapting to the body.
Finally, the base of the TEMPUR-Cloud® bed is the firmest foam layer, which provides support, durability, and stability. This layer also helps increase the mattress’ longevity.
