Founded in 2015, Helix specializes in quality mattresses that are custom-built and handmade at its facility in Phoenix, Arizona. The Helix Dusk Luxe is a 13.5-inch hybrid, made with multiple foam layers and a coil unit, designed with body contouring and lumbar support in mind.
This mattress is the Luxe version of the Helix Dusk. Helix’s Luxe range is their most luxurious line of mattresses, featuring plush pillow tops, zoned support, a larger amount of coils, and additional cooling features, which the standard line doesn’t have.
If the idea of a medium-firm mattress with comfy cushioning and ergonomic support sparks your interest, then we recommend you read on.

Who We Recommend The Helix Dusk Luxe For:
- Back sleepers – Medium-firm beds tend to be great options for back sleepers, as they need a good balance of pressure relief and lift in the lumbar area. Light to average-weight back sleepers should feel comfortably supported on this mattress.
- Lightweight sleepers – This mattress should provide a great balance of cushioning and support for lightweight sleepers in all positions.
- Hot sleepers – We reviewed the model with the GlacioTex cooling cover upgrade and it did a fabulous job at keeping us cool, with its soft, cool to the touch feel. The bed also has an innerspring unit, which aids airflow and breathability, providing further temperature regulation.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Helix Dusk Luxe For:
- Heavyweight people – Heavier back sleepers weighing closer to 230 pounds may feel supported on this mattress, but in general we think heavyweight folk would be better off looking for a firmer bed or one that’s designed for plus-size people.
- Stomach sleepers – This model likely isn’t firm enough for stomach sleepers, who require extra support in the hip area to keep the spine in alignment. We’d recommend a firmer mattress for stomach sleepers to prevent lower back pain.
- Budget shoppers – While the Helix Dusk Luxe is a good value luxury model, it’s not the cheapest out there. Sleepers with a smaller budget may be interested in the Helix Dusk, which comes at a lower price point.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6.5/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
Finding the correct firmness for your body weight and sleeping style is incredibly important when choosing a new mattress. We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being super soft and 10 being extremely firm. The Helix Dusk Luxe is a 6.5 out of 10, making it a medium-firm bed. This balanced feel is provided by the cushioning of the plush pillow top and foam layers with support offered by the coil unit.
Medium-firm mattresses are often great choices for couples. We think lightweight sleepers would benefit most from this bed, while average-weight side and back sleepers may also be big fans.
How Does It Feel?
We tested the Helix Dusk Luxe with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover upgrade, which feels soft and cool to the touch. Pressing down into the mattress, you’ll notice a cushioning hug from the pillow top without feeling like you’re being swallowed by the bed.
Despite its foam layers, there’s a good amount of bounce, thanks to the responsive foam and coil unit. This is ideal for combination sleepers, as it allows them to comfortably change positions, as well as those with limited mobility.
What We Like About the Helix Dusk Luxe
- Motion isolation – Despite having a good amount of bounce, this mattress also offers fantastic motion isolation, so you shouldn’t be disturbed by a restless partner or pet.
- Edge support – This mattress has great edge support, with stronger coils positioned around the perimeter of the mattress to prevent it from sagging.
- Lumbar support – With reinforced coils in the center of the mattress offering targeted lumbar support, many sleepers should experience a good balance of cushioning and contouring in this area.
Our Helix Dusk Luxe Complaints
- May be too soft for some people – While this mattress does offer a good amount of support for many sleepers, heavier individuals may experience it as softer than medium-firm.
- Initial unpleasant smell – As with all bed-in-a-box mattresses, this one has an unpleasant off-gassing odor after unboxing. However, this should be gone within 48 hours.
- No white glove delivery – Unfortunately, Helix no longer offers in-home setup or old mattress removal, which may be an issue for some shoppers.
Testing the Helix Dusk Luxe Mattress: How it Performed
To give you an idea of whether this mattress could be the one for you, we tested it for a number of features. These include motion isolation, edge support, cooling, pressure relief, and overall support. We also tested different body weights and sleeping positions to help you make that all-important decision.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Helix Dusk Luxe can support up to 1,000 pounds total weight or 500 pounds each for couples. Despite this, we didn’t rate it highly for most heavyweight sleepers, who probably won’t feel enough support from the mattress.
Weight | Side Sleepers![]() | Back Sleepers![]() | Stomach Sleepers![]() |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs) | ★★★ | ★★★ | ★★★ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★★☆ | ★★★ | ★☆☆ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ☆☆☆ | ★★☆ | ☆☆☆ |

Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers should enjoy the Helix Dusk Luxe, as it offers a good balance of comfort and support for this weight range.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Side sleepers weighing closer to 130 pounds should feel a great amount of pressure relief at the hips and shoulders, though those closer to 230 pounds could feel increased pressure in these areas.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – If you weigh over 230 pounds and sleep on your side, you’ll likely sink too far into the mattress, causing increased pressure on the shoulders and hips.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think this mattress is ideal for lightweight back sleepers, who should feel perfectly cushioned and supported at the hips and lower back.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Back sleepers weighing between 130 to 230 pounds should experience the right amount of cushioning and support from this mattress, thanks to the zoned lumbar support, which should keep the hips aligned.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We think heavier back sleepers weighing between 230 to 300 pounds could feel enough support from this mattress. Those over 300 pounds might feel more comfortable on a mattress designed for plus-size people though.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers will likely feel supported enough to prevent their hips from sinking. This should allow for a healthy spine alignment.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Front sleepers weighing close to 130 pounds may get enough support in the lumbar area, but we think those weighing more than this should look for a firmer mattress.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers need extra support in the hip area. Therefore, we don’t recommend this mattress for heavyweight humans, who will probably find their hips sinking.
Pressure Relief & Pain
With its plush pillow top and dynamic foam, the Helix Dusk Luxe offers a good amount of body contouring and pressure relief for many sleepers in potentially troublesome areas like the hips, lower back, and shoulders. Back sleepers put more pressure on their lower back, and the mattress’ targeted lumbar support works together with the bed’s responsive foam to help alleviate that. Some side sleepers will also experience a good amount of cradling around their shoulders and hips.
Back Pain – This medium-firm mattress could work wonders for back sleepers, as it should provide the right amount of pressure relief and support in the lumbar area, which is essential for avoiding lower back pain. However, heavyweight back sleepers over 300 pounds will likely experience increased pressure in the lower back.
Hip Pain – This mattress didn’t feel supportive enough in the hip area for stomach sleeping specifically, as we felt our hips sinking too deeply, causing a buildup of pressure.
Shoulder Pain – Light to average-weight side sleepers should feel good pressure relief in the shoulder and hip areas, thanks to the plush pillow top and comfort foams. However, heavier side sleepers will probably sink too far, causing unwanted pressure in those areas.
Support
The Helix Dusk Luxe’s support comes from a firm innerspring unit and layers of Memory Plus Foam, high-density poly foam, and DuraDense Foam. The coil unit is designed to feel softer under your shoulders and firmer under your hips, helping to cradle your body and keep everything in alignment. The foam layers offer ergonomic contouring and comfort.
While this bed offers great support for many people, we don’t recommend it for heavyweight sleepers, who may require a firmer mattress to keep everything in alignment.
Stronger coils around the perimeter of the bed allow for exceptional edge support.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is something to consider if you share your bed with a restless partner or pet, or someone who gets in and out of bed at different times than you. What you’re looking for is as much motion isolation as possible, which means that when a co-sleeper moves around, the movement remains in their part of the mattress, leaving you undisturbed. We found the Helix Dusk Luxe to have excellent motion isolation, potentially making it a great choice for couples.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling
If you sleep in a warm climate, often wake up in a sweat, or find yourself overheating when sharing a bed, then you need a cooling mattress. A cooling bed features special technology to help regulate your body temperature.
The Helix Dusk Luxe has a coil unit that promotes airflow and dissipates body heat. The GlacioTex Cooling Cover upgrade is a fantastic choice for hot sleepers, as it’s cool to the touch and contains fibers with high thermal conductivity, allowing heat to be drawn away from your body. We think this mattress is ideal for hot sleepers.
Performance for Couples
With fantastic motion isolation and cooling, we think this mattress would suit many couples well. Some sexually-active couples prefer a more responsive mattress that tends to be better for moving around and changing positions, and the Helix Dusk Luxe offers a good level of bounce. This mattress also has excellent edge support, thanks to stronger coils around the perimeter that allow you to use the entire surface area of the bed.

Preference-based Features
Pillow Top
This mattress features a premium quilted pillow top with a choice of cover. Choose between the breathable Tencel, which is the standard option, or the extra-cooling GlacioTex cover. The GlacioTex cover costs an extra 149 to 249 dollars, depending on mattress size.
Exceptional Edge Support
Thanks to reinforced coils around the perimeter of the innerspring unit, this mattress offers excellent edge support. This may be important for couples who like to be able to use the whole surface area of the bed without feeling like they’re about to roll off or for those with mobility issues who need the extra support to help them get in and out of bed.
High Bounce
The Helix Dusk Luxe features a springy coil unit and dynamic foam layers, which gives it a good level of bounce.
Cooling
The pocketed coils in this bed allow for air to flow through, preventing heat from being trapped in the layers. A breathable Tencel cover is offered as standard, or you can upgrade to the GlacioTex Cooling Cover, which is cool to the touch and made with heat-dissipating fibers that help regulate body temperature.
Adjustable Base Compatible
Helix mattresses should work with any adjustable base, though the company recommends the Helix Adjustable Base, which they have tested their mattresses on.
Made in the USA
Helix mattresses are custom-built by hand at their factory in Phoenix, Arizona.
Construction: What’s Inside Helix Dusk Luxe?
This 13.5-inch hybrid comes with a premium quilted pillow top as standard, covered with Tencel fabric, which is comfortable and breathable, helping to keep you cool. A GlacioTex Cooling Cover is available as an upgrade for those in need of advanced cooling. While the GlacioTex cover costs extra, it could be worth it to those who have trouble sleeping because they frequently feel too warm at night.
- The first comfort layer is made from high-density Helix Dynamic Foam that’s designed to cushion and cradle your body, offering pressure relief where you need it most. This latex-alternative foam is also responsive, allowing for easy movement on the bed.
- The second comfort layer features Memory Plus Foam, offering further pressure relief with a classic memory foam feel.
- The transition layer is made from high-density poly foam, providing ergonomic support and contouring, while easing you into the firmer support layers.
- The innerspring unit works as the support layer, featuring over 1,000 individually-wrapped zoned coils, which are designed to be stronger in the middle of the mattress. This helps to keep your hips lifted, ensuring your lumbar area is in healthy alignment with the rest of your spine. Firmer coils are also used around the mattress’ perimeter for sturdy edge support.
- The base layer is engineered with DuraDense Foam, providing support and durability for the rest of the mattress.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Helix mattresses ship in a 47-inch by 16-inch by 16-inch box, weighing from 80 pounds to 145 pounds, depending on your chosen mattress size. Once unboxed, the mattress needs around two hours to fully expand, and then it’s ready to be slept on.
As with many bed-in-a-box models, you’ll experience some off-gassing, which is the result of chemical by-products escaping after being vacuum-packed. While it doesn’t smell great, it’s harmless and should disappear within 48 hours if the room is kept ventilated.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. This mattress also has a GREENGUARD Gold certification that reflects the product’s ability to meet some of the world’s most rigorous emissions standards.
Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping
- Shipping – Shipping is free for all U.S. orders. Orders to Canada will incur a Customs Tax and shipping fee of 250 dollars per mattress.
- White-Glove Delivery – Helix suspended its white glove delivery during the pandemic and has yet to reinstate it. However, due to California state laws, deliveries to California come with free old mattress removal.
- Trial – You’ll have 100 nights to sleep on your decision.
- Warranty – This mattress comes with a 15-year limited warranty.
- Return Policy – If you decide the Helix Dusk Luxe isn’t for you, you can return it for a full refund, as long as it’s returned within the trial and you’ve slept on it for at least 30 days. Returns are free.

Overall Summary
The Helix Dusk Luxe is the epitome of affordable luxury, but it’s only worth the spend if it suits your body weight and sleeping style. Light to average-weight sleepers may find this is just what they need for a great night’s sleep.
Light to average-weight side sleepers should experience a nice amount of cushioning and support at the hips and shoulders, though those weighing closer to 230 pounds may prefer a softer mattress for better pressure relief. We don’t recommend this mattress for side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds, who could sink too far into the bed, causing discomfort.
We think most back sleepers will get along with this mattress, thanks to the medium-firmness and targeted lumbar support. However, heavier sleepers weighing over 300 pounds may find they don’t get enough support at the hips and lower back.
Lightweight front sleepers and those weighing around the 130-pound mark should feel enough support in the lumbar area to keep everything aligned. Any heavier than that and you’ll probably experience sinkage, causing aches and pains. In this case, a firmer mattress is advised.
Light to average-weight folk who switch between sleeping on their back and side may enjoy the responsive feel of this hybrid, which should allow them to change positions with ease. However, if you’re a combination stomach sleeper weighing over 130 pounds, you might find your hips sinking.
Depending on your body weights and sleeping preferences, this could be a good option for couples who may appreciate the versatile medium-firmness, exceptional edge support, and excellent motion isolation. If one or more of you is on the heavier side, we’d recommend a firmer, more supportive mattress.
For the most part, we think heavyweight sleepers would be better off looking at the Helix Plus, which is specifically designed for plus-size people and should offer better support. However, strict back sleepers weighing up to 300 pounds may be fine on the Helix Dusk Luxe.
Lightweight sleepers weighing up to 130 pounds should find themselves sleeping soundly on this mattress, especially if you sleep on your back or side, though strict stomach sleepers may require a bit more support. We think this is a great choice for lightweight combination sleepers.
We think average-weight side and back sleepers could benefit a lot from this mattress, as you should experience a great balance of cushioning and contouring from the pillow top and foam, while still feeling supported thanks to the innerspring unit. Stomach sleepers may prefer a firmer mattress to keep the hips elevated.
Overall Value
4/5
The Helix Dusk Luxe is a luxurious mattress made with high-quality, durable materials, and we think it’s great value for what you get. Add to that the fact that this bed’s warranty is 15 years, compared to the 10-year deal that comes with the standard Helix Dusk mattress.
Our Verdict
If you’re searching for affordable luxury, the Helix Dusk Luxe is a fantastic option. Helix offers quality mattresses at fair prices, and because their beds are handcrafted with premium materials, you should find your purchase lasts for years.
Light to average-weight sleepers should benefit most from the plush cushioning and ergonomic support, and combination sleepers in those categories may enjoy the responsive feel. Hot sleepers will appreciate the cooling properties, and they should definitely consider the GlacioTex Cooling Cover upgrade.
However, we don’t recommend this bed for heavier people, as they could benefit more from the brand’s Helix Plus bed.
