My fellow Lead Product Tester, Julia, and I have conducted hands-on tests for nearly six dozen mattresses. The vast majority of these beds are made in the USA. Considering this can be an important component for many consumers, I have assembled a comprehensive list of the best made-in-the-USA beds that Julia and I tested. For a bed to earn this title, the bed must be manufactured in the United States, and most of the mattress’s materials must also be produced here. 

My fellow testers and I evaluate each mattress based on body types and sleep positions because no one-style-fits-all bed is available. We also examine cooling, firmness, motion isolation, bounce, and edge support to give you as much detailed information as possible so you can make a knowledgeable purchasing decision.

I tested the Helix Midnight myself, and this made-in-the-USA mattress has superior temperature regulation, earning a 5 out of 5 rating in this category. This is excellent if you often overheat at night or sleep beside someone since the extra body heat can accumulate. 

 This mattress’s balanced feel and versatility, combined with how well it tested in many categories, is why it is our Editor’s Pick. 

What’s the Helix Midnight Luxe Made Of?

The Helix Midnight Luxe comprises six layers and is 13.5 inches tall. 

• Layer 3 – Comfort Layer. Designed with Copper Gel Memory Foam, the Midnight Luxe’s third layer has a medium firmness feel that contours and reacts to your body weight. 
• Layer 4 – Transition Layer. The fourth layer provides support and stability and ergonomically reacts to your body weight. 
• Layer 5 – Zoned Body Shape Layer. This layer consists of up to 1,000 individually wrapped coils and is zoned to provide extra support under your hips. This section also provides additional lumbar and edge support. 
• Layer 6 – Base Layer. The final layer is constructed from DuraDense Foam, providing durability and stability to the entire mattress.  

My Take: The Helix Midnight Luxe evenly distributes your weight, which helps keep pressure and pain off the hips and shoulders of side sleepers.

What I Liked

• Enhanced cooling properties – The Helix Midnight uses cooling TENCEL™ in the cover, and the temperature is also regulated by infusing the memory foam with copper gel. Additionally, you can upgrade to the GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover for an additional fee. As mentioned, it earned a top score during my testing for cooling. If you run hot at night, you should like this one.
• Zoned support – This bed features a zoned support design. This means that heavier body parts (like the midsection) have extra support, and lighter areas (like the shoulders) are softer. These support features promote excellent spinal alignment and overall comfort. 

Potential Drawbacks

• Too soft for some sleepers – Heavyweight stomach sleepers may not receive enough support around their hips. This could cause them to sink too far in the bed, leading to uncomfortable spinal alignment.
• Only hybrid options – Fans of all-foam beds may not like that this mattress doesn’t offer a memory foam version. If you prefer an all-foam mattress, though, we’ve added some great ones to this list worth checking out.

Why the WinkBed Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Couples

Couples have to share their sleeping space. For this reason, there are certain mattress features that may be more important to bedmates than they are solo sleepers. The WinkBed earned the Best Mattress Made in the USA for Couples spot due to its outstanding performance in many categories important to co-sleepers. 

I loved its incredible edge support, allowing couples to utilize the entire surface without fearing falling off the side or gravitating to the middle. The dense foam layers also provide excellent motion isolation. Those with restless partners are likely to sleep undisturbed because this mattress can absorb motion before it travels to the other side of the bed. The WinkBed’s coils also provide some bounce, and this feature can be beneficial for sexually active couples. 

What’s the WinkBed Made Of?

All WinkBed mattresses are handcrafted, and this means that some of the dimensions can vary. However, all models are 13.5 inches tall and consist of three layers.

• Layer 4 – The perimeter. The perimeter of the bed features WinkBed’s Extra-Edge™ Support. This feature provides excellent edge support. 

My Take: It feels like a luxury hotel bed.

What I Liked

• Customization – I appreciate that the WinkBed comes in multiple firmness levels, including Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. They even have a Plus model for heavyweight sleepers. These options enable shoppers to find a bed that suits their sleep preferences and body type.
• Cooling capabilities – The TENCEL™ cover, the gel-infused Euro top, and the individually pocketed springs combine to provide sleepers with a cool sleep environment. In my testing, I rated the WinkBed well for cooling, giving it a 4 out of 5.

Potential Drawbacks

• Price point – The WinkBed isn’t the most expensive hybrid mattress on the market, but it is on the pricier side. However, it uses high-end, durable materials that could make the extra cost worth it. 
• Lack of memory foam – Although the WinkBed uses foams, the construction doesn’t include memory foam. Sleepers who like the slow-moving contouring feel of memory foam will not find it in this mattress.

Customer Reviews of the WinkBed

On the WinkBeds site, the WinkBed earns 4.8 out of 5 stars. One drawback of the WinkBed mattress is that it might be too expensive for budget-conscious shoppers, but overall it offers excellent durability and customizable firmness options.

Why the Puffy Cloud Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Side Sleepers

The Puffy Cloud is a high-quality memory foam mattress that we recommend to side sleepers because the top layer wraps people in a deep hug, as noted by our other lead tester, Julia, who tried out this bed first-hand.

As sleepers settle into this mattress, they should notice the comfort layer contouring around their body and relieving pressure. Although this medium-firm mattress could be suitable for many sleep positions, Julia felt that side sleepers would likely benefit the most from the attributes of the Puffy Cloud. Side sleepers are more susceptible to pressure buildup around their hips and shoulders, and this mattress’s contouring and pressure-relieving foam construction can provide comforting relief. 

What’s the Puffy Cloud Made Of?

The Puffy Cloud has five layers, and it is 10 inches tall when fully assembled. 

• Layer 1 – Stain-Resistant Cloud Cover. The first point of contact for the Puffy Cloud is its hypoallergenic and stain-resistant cover with its signature cloud design. The cover can be zipped off and machine-washed. 
• Layer 2 – Cooling Cloud™ Foam. The second layer comprises 2 inches of gel-infused foam that gently contours around a sleeper’s body while pulling heat away. 
• Layer 3 – Climate Comfort™ Foam. Layer three is also 2 inches thick and is made from humidity-resistant foam. This layer helps regulate temperature by encouraging airflow. 
• Layer 4 – Firm Core Support Foam. The fourth layer of the Puffy Cloud provides optimal body support and stabilization with 6 inches of high-density foam. The foam in this section of the bed reacts to your body weight and the amount of pressure applied.

What We Liked

• Spinal support – The multiple foam layers do an excellent job supporting your spine and relieving pressure. The American Chiropractic Association has even certified this mattress due to how well it serves those with back pain.
• Lifetime warranty – Puffy stands by their mattress by providing a lifetime warranty. This forever warranty can give consumers peace of mind when making a major purchase.

Potential Drawbacks  

• Lack of support for heavyweight sleepers – The foam layers may need to provide more support for heavier sleepers. Plus-size sleepers may push through the layers too quickly, which can lead to poor spine alignment.
• Temperature regulation – Foam mattresses typically sleep hotter than hybrids or innerspring mattresses. Although Puffy included cooling foams in this bed, when Julia, tested this bed, she didn’t feel a lot of temperature regulation.

Customer Reviews of the Puffy Cloud

The Puffy Cloud rates 4.9 out of 5 on Puffy’s website. Customers often praise the Puffy Cloud mattress for its plush comfort and excellent motion isolation, but some have mentioned it might be too soft for those who prefer a firmer feel.

Our pick for Best Luxury Mattress Made in the USA is the Saatva Classic, and classics are called that for a reason. Saatva offers hybrid and all-foam beds, but the Classic uses a coil-on-coil structure for this luxurious, elevated bed. 

Our team appreciates the manufacturer’s eye for detail in the comforting Euro top, supportive Lumbar Zone® Technology, and eco-conscious materials. The Saatva Classic, manufactured to hold up to 300 pounds per side, is a durable bed that should withstand the test of time. My fellow lead product tester, Julia, got to test the Saatva Classic and specifically recommended it for affordable luxury shoppers.

What’s the Saatva Classic Made Of?

The Saatva Classic is offered in 11.5-inch or 14.5-inch heights.  

• Layer 3 – Contouring comfort. The next layer of the Saatva Classic is made up of hundreds of Lumbar Zone® pocketed 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils. The third layer contours to your body and helps relieve pressure. This layer is also instrumental in absorbing motion.
• Layer 4 – Supportive base.  The final layer is the base coil unit. It consists of 13-gauge tempered steel that prevents sagging and provides additional airflow. 
• Edge support – The Saatva Classic uses high-density foam rails to create stable, firm edge support.

What We Liked

• Affordable luxury – The Saatva Classic has the features and durability of luxury mattresses. However, for the features you get, the price point for this bed is surprisingly affordable. Plus, the brand offers free white glove delivery with your purchase so you don’t have to worry about setting up the mattress yourself.
• Lumbar Zone® Zone Technology – Saatva uses a patented design that provides additional support to the heavier parts of the body. This helps with spinal alignment and overall support. 

Potential Drawbacks

• Return fee – Saatva allows for returns, but there is a $99 charge for shipping it back to them. This may not be ideal if you’re unsure about the Saatva.
• Motion transfer – The individually wrapped coils and layer of memory foam help absorb motion when sleeping on this mattress. However, Julia pointed out that the motion isolation overall is lacking. This could be an issue for couples with different sleep schedules or if one person tosses and turns a lot.

The Saatva Classic rates 4.8 stars out of 5 on Saatva’s website. One negative aspect customers found with the Saatva Classic mattress is that it may feel too firm for some users, while a notable advantage is its high-quality materials, providing durability and support.

• Supportive construction – This mattress has individually wrapped coils that move separately and are designed to provide extra support in the middle of the body. This is helpful since this is where we typically carry more weight and, therefore, need enhanced support. 

Potential Drawbacks

• Too soft for some – Sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds may find this bed too soft to offer adequate support, particularly those who prefer sleeping on their stomach. Heavyweight stomach sleepers may experience a lack of support around their hips, which could lead to painful spinal alignment. 
• Price point – This bed is durable and constructed with high-end materials, making the extra cost worth it for many people. However, it may cause it to be too expensive for some.

We also love that the Nolah Evolution comes in multiple firmness levels, including Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm. This means sleepers with back pain can find a feel that’s even more tailored to their body type and sleep position for enhanced overall comfort.

What’s the Nolah Evolution Made Of?

The Nolah Evolution has eight layers and a total height of 15 inches.

• Layer 4 – Zoned AirFoam™. Layer four consists of zoned AirFoam™ that provides additional pressure relief and responsiveness. This feature is particularly beneficial to side sleepers. It also aids in cooling as AirFoam™ is highly breathable and completely temperature neutral.
• Layer 5 – Support foam.  Under the Zoned AirFoam layer, you’ll find 2 inches of CertiPUR-US® certified CoreComfort support foam. This layer helps relieve pressure and provides top-to-bottom support.
• Layer 6 – Transition foam. The sixth layer is made from 1 inch of EverAdapt transition foam that adds subtle responsiveness to the bed, allowing combination sleepers to move without feeling stuck. It also absorbs motion, so couples can sleep undisturbed even if their partner is restless.
• Layer 7 – Coils and reinforced edges.  The bulk of the bed’s height comes from the 8-inch HDMax™ Tri-Zone™ coils found in layer seven. The coils are individually wrapped for motion isolation and zoned into three areas for targeted support. Thicker coils along the perimeter of this layer also help with edge support.
• Layer 8 – Foundation. The base layer of the Nolah Evolution is made from recycled plant fibers. It gives the bed overall stability and durability. This bed also has border fabric with carrying handles. The non-skid backside ensures that the mattress stays in place.

What We Liked

• Multiple cooling features – Keeping sleepers cool is a focus of the Nolah Evolution. The bed includes multiple cooling properties, such as ArcticTex™ fibers, a border gusset, breathable foams, and coils.
• Versatility – The Nolah Evolution is available in three firmness levels: Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm. This makes it easier for consumers to purchase a mode that appeals to their preferences and unique needs.

Potential Drawbacks

• Bulky – This is a tall and somewhat heavy mattress. Therefore, moving it may not be easy, and I recommend asking someone to help you set it up or move it. Fortunately, it has built-in handles that should help. 
• Lacks support for some sleepers – During his testing, Stuart found that the Evolution wasn’t as supportive for stomach sleeping. “Stomach sleepers may find that their hips and lower back sink pretty deep into this mattress, and it may not be the most comfortable for long-term sleep.” In this case, you might consider one of our recommended beds for stomach sleepers.

Earning a 4.9 out of 5 stars on Nolah’s website, the Nolah Evolution seems to be a hit. Customers appreciate the Nolah Evolution mattress for its superior pressure relief, but some have mentioned that the edge support could be improved for a more consistent sleep surface.

Why the Titan Plus Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Heavy People

The Titan Plus is Brooklyn Bedding’s response to the call for a top-tier mattress specifically for heavyweight sleepers. Using a hybrid design that incorporates enhanced support, targeted pressure relief, and long-lasting materials, the Titan Plus is a great find for larger sleepers. 

Additionally, this bed does an excellent job of regulating temperature by incorporating cooling properties into the construction. We also love that Brooklyn Bedding makes the Titan Plus with top-notch materials and detailed craftsmanship, it is still reasonably priced. Brooklyn Bedding prides itself on its American-made products that ship directly to consumers from its Arizona factory. 

What’s the Titan Plus Made Of?

The Titan Plus incorporates five layers and is 11 inches tall.

• Layer 3 – TitanFlex™ foam. The third layer of the Titan Plus consists of 2 inches of the company’s proprietary TitanFlex™ foam. This layer is responsive, which helps sleepers change positions quickly, and it also aids in pressure relief.
• Layer 4 – Individually wrapped coils.  TitanCore 8-inch coils make up the fourth and most prominent layer. This section supports the sleeper and provides long-lasting durability.
• Layer 5 – Flex base.  The final layer of the bed is a .25-inch flex base that reinforces the coils.  

Our Take: “I definitely sink in a little bit, but this mattress feels supportive enough that I don’t feel stuck at all. Unlike many mattresses that I have tried, my weight is evenly distributed over this surface and I feel extremely comfortable.” – Patrick, Sleep Advisor Mattress Tester

What We Liked

• Targeted support – The TitanCore coils offer targeted support to the body’s heaviest parts. The coils also help align the spine and prevent sleepers from sagging too deeply into the mattress. As Patrick, our heavyweight tester noted, “Those coils are extra strong.”
• Weight limit – This solid bed can support up to 1,000 pounds, which is great for heavier people. This can be especially beneficial for heavier couples. 

Potential Drawbacks

• Too firm for some sleepers – The Titan Plus is a firm bed with substantial support. It was specifically designed for heavyweight people. With that in mind, it may not be soft enough for lightweight and average-weight customers – particularly those who sleep on their side.
• Unique feel – The Titan Plus uses both foam and coils. Therefore, fans of innerspring or all-foam beds may not appreciate the distinctive feel of this bed.

Users on Titan by Brooklyn Bedding’s site have given the Titan Plus a 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers find the Titan Plus mattress to offer exceptional durability and support, but some mention that it might be too firm for those who prefer a softer feel.

Why the Plank Firm Earned Best Firm Mattress Made in the USA

As its name implies, the Plank Firm by Brooklyn Bedding specializes in a firmer mattress design. This model is also a flippable mattress that gives you two firmness options in one.

One side of the mattress is firm, but if you desire an even firmer bed, you can flip it to the ultra-firm side. Although both sides are firm, the feel will change slightly depending on your chosen firmness level. The Ultra-Firm side will likely make you feel you’re floating right above the bed, while the Firm side will contour to your body while maintaining excellent spinal alignment.  

What’s the Plank Firm Made Of?

The Plank Firm is a slim 10.25 inches tall and has four layers.

• Layer 3 – Response comfort foam.  The third layer is 2 inches tall of supreme response comfort foam. The response comfort foam is firm, but it also provides some contouring.
• Layer 4 – Quilted bottom.  The fourth and final layer comprises another .75 inches of pillow top that uses sports track-and-jumping stitching for minimal loft. If you flip your mattress, this layer will serve as the cover.

What We Liked

• Versatile options – The two-in-one design of the Plank Firm allows sleepers to alternate between the Firm or Ultra-Firm options. This versatility lets you determine what firmness level works best for you.
• Edge support – The high-density firm foam provides a sturdy perimeter of this all-foam bed, allowing couples to utilize the whole sleeping surface. Those with mobility issues should be able to easily get out of this bed. 

Potential Drawbacks
