Today we’re comparing an all-foam model to a hybrid model, the Nectar mattress and the Casper Hybrid mattress. Each bed offers great value and benefits, but their intricacies make them suitable for different shoppers.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

Our firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10 (softest to firmest). The Casper Hybrid is a 6-6.5 out of 10, and the Nectar is 6.5, which means both of these mattresses fall into the medium-firm category.

A medium firmness can be a great compromise for couples who have different firmness requirements, though the majority of heavyweight sleepers would likely prefer a firmer offering than either of these mattresses.

Support

Most sleepers could do well on the Casper Hybrid, thanks to its good balance of pressure relief and support, and the bed rates well for multiple sleep positions, particularly for side sleeping. However, this bed may not do well for exceptionally heavy or lightweight people.

Stomach sleepers will likely find too little support from the Nectar, unless they’re exceptionally lightweight. However, light to average-weight back and side sleepers should feel enough support from the firmer layers to keep their spine in alignment.

Feel

Lie down on the Casper Hybrid, and you should feel a gentle cradle. As you sink into the top layers, you should find experience relief in pressure points while the coils foster bounce and support.

Don’t worry if the Nectar feels firmer than expected on your first couple of nights; this often happens with memory foam, which can go through a “breaking in” period and will soften over time.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

The Casper Hybrid mattress offers a gentle cradle without feeling like you’re sinking too far into the bed. However, this may not be the case for heavier sleepers, who could experience excessive sinkage on this bed. The coils on this hybrid should deliver good responsiveness and bounce, allowing combination sleepers to move around comfortably.

The Nectar’s memory foam offers great contouring and pressure relief and could be perfect for side sleepers of all body weights. However, the trade-off is that the bed has minimal bounce, which may be an issue for those who prefer a more buoyant mattress.

Motion isolation is important for those who sleep with a restless partner or pet and don’t want to be disturbed by their movements during the night. In this situation, you’ll want a bed with good motion isolation, as it prevents movement rippling from one side of the bed to the other, which can often happen with an innerspring bed.

Memory foam beds tend to excel in this category, as the material absorbs movement. Both the Casper Hybrid and Nectar have good motion isolation, though the Nectar’s all-foam structure means it will have the advantage in this category.

Comparing Cooling

The comfort layer in the Casper Hybrid is made with AirScape™ foam, which has an open-cell structure with thousands of perforations, allowing for breathability and airflow. This helps to keep it cooler than regular foam. Additionally, the coils in this mattress foster extra airflow and cooling.

The Nectar has a breathable cover made with heat-wicking polyethylene fibers to draw heat away from the body, helping to keep you cool. Gel infused into the memory foam layer allows further heat dissipation and temperature regulation.

Casper Hybrid Construction

This mattress works on most bases and foundations, including adjustable bases. If you plan to use a slatted bed, though, the slats should be no more than 4 inches apart.
The Casper Hybrid’s cover is a polyester blend. Beneath the cover, there are two foam layers followed by a coil base, giving the mattress an 11-inch profile.

• The AirScape™ foam sits below the cover and is perforated to increase airflow, helping you remain cool throughout the night. This foam also conforms to your body to alleviate pressure.
• The Zoned Support™ layer is a memory foam with three ergonomic zones to optimize spinal alignment. This foam is softer beneath the shoulders and firmer under the hips, waist, and lower back.
• The mattress base contains pocketed coils for enhanced support, extra airflow, and bounce. A foam border surrounds this innerspring unit, providing quality edge support, which should you more useable surface space.

Nectar Construction

The Nectar is a 12-inch all-foam mattress, made with a poly-blend cover, featuring a circular knit pattern. The cover is breathable and has heat-absorbent fibers that help draw heat away from the body, allowing for better temperature regulation.

• Quilted to the cover is 2 inches of memory foam. This layer of memory foam is infused with gel to help keep the top layer of the mattress and the sleeper nice and cool. Additionally, this foam is designed to offer body contouring and pressure relief.
• The second layer works as a support and transition layer and is made from 3 inches of dynamic premium foam. It’s designed to support the body and promote correct spine alignment while easing you down into the base layer. This foam layer is engineered to foster airflow.
