We rate mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the most firm. It’s hard to give a definitive number to this bed, as the firmness is adjustable, with as many as 20 firmness settings (or Sleep Numbers, as the brand calls them). You can manually change your Sleep Number or allow the Responsive Air® technology to adjust your Sleep Number while you sleep based on your movements. The bed’s customizable firmness means it should accommodate a variety of sleepers.
How Does It Feel?
While the Sleep Number 360® i10 has 20 firmness options, it still feels incredibly plush, thanks to its 7 inches of comfort foam. Sleep Number bed names include numbers to indicate their softness – higher numbers mean the bed has a larger amount of cushioning. So, for example, the i10 has more cushioning than the Sleep Number 360® i8. However, most sleepers should still feel supported on the i10’s foam.

Our Sleep Number 360® i10 Complaints
- Price – The Sleep Number 360® i10 is the most expensive of Sleep Number’s beds (along with the iLE), at 5,399 dollars for a Queen, and the warranty doesn’t fully cover defects after the first year, so maintaining the bed could also prove costly.
- Limited sizing – The Sleep Number 360® i10 is only available in a Queen size and larger, which excludes shoppers who want a Twin, Twin XL, or Full.
- It can take a while to figure out your sleep number – While an adjustable firmness is a handy feature, it can take some time to figure out what works for you. Sleep Number suggests finding a setting that feels good and sticking with it for a few days before adjusting to see how you feel.

Our reviews are based on in-person tests in which we analyze different mattress features like motion isolation, cooling, edge support, and bounce. Additionally, we look at how supportive and pressure-relieving the mattress is in different sleep positions, including on the side, back, and stomach.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Sleep Number beds with dual air chambers – like the Sleep Number 360® i10 – can carry a maximum weight of 400 pounds per side. However, the bed may not be supportive enough for some heavier sleepers.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers should experience great cushioning and support on the i10, sinking far enough into the comfort layer to experience good pressure relief and contouring.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers could really love this bed, experiencing soothing pressure relief at the shoulders and hips while also feeling adequately supported.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Although heavyweight side sleepers may be able to find a sleep number that offers sufficient contouring and support, we think some will be at risk of sinking too far, causing poor spine health.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should be able to find a setting that provides great lumbar support and cushioning – a must for back sleepers.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should sink deep enough into the contouring foam to get good pressure relief and still feel supported by the air chamber.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Many heavyweight sleepers should be able to get sufficient lumbar support and cushioning but some may find themselves bottoming out, which isn’t great for spine health.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers could enjoy the contouring foam that should cushion the chest and abdomen while also keeping their hips lifted.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight front sleepers will likely feel comfortable on this bed by selecting a higher sleep number that will keep the hips lifted.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We think many heavyweight stomach sleepers will be able to find a sleep number that works for them but some could find their hips sinking too far into the comfort layers, causing lower back pain.
Pressure Relief & Pain
The Sleep Number 360® i10 mattress features up to 7 inches of plush contouring foam, making it one of the softest Sleep Number beds. The foam is designed to push back against your body when it warms up, relieving pressure without retaining heat. There are lots of online reviews from people saying that the bed soothed their joint pain and helped them sleep through the night.
Back Pain – The plush cushioning and contouring support on the i10 could offer great pressure relief and lumbar lifting, helping to soothe any back pain.
Hip Pain – People with hip pain should experience a good level of pressure relief on this mattress, thanks to the thick layers of contouring foam and support provided by the air chambers.
Shoulder Pain – Side sleepers with shoulder pain should find this bed a treat, sinking deeply into the comfort foam.
Support
Although the i10 bed has a thick 7-inch comfort layer, the mix of Ergonomex™ and ThermaLux™ foams provide more support than you might expect, as this foam is denser than the foam found in some of Sleep Number’s other models, such as the iLE. This should provide adequate support for a wider range of sleepers, including stomach sleepers, who require a lot more lift in the hip area.
Unfortunately, edge support isn’t great on this model, which could affect couples who like to spread out or those with limited mobility.
Motion Transfer
Light sleepers who share with a restless partner should look for a bed with good motion isolation. This means that any movement made by someone on another side of the bed should remain there, leaving you undisturbed. The Sleep Number 360® i10 has great motion isolation, thanks to its dual air chambers and the thick layer of comfort foam.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
Mattresses with cooling technology are ideal purchases for those who sleep hot or live in a warm climate. The Sleep Number 360® i10 features a temperature-balancing layer of ThermaLux™ ceramic-infused foam, which is designed to be four times more conductive than gel-infused foam. This layer doesn’t trap heat like traditional memory foam, and it has a breathable poly-blend cover attached, which further helps dissipate body heat.
Performance for Couples
This mattress has good motion isolation and features cooling technology, which could benefit those who tend to overheat when sharing a bed. DualAir technology allows you to customize the firmness on each side of the bed, which could be a huge plus point for couples with differing firmness preferences.

Construction: What’s Inside the Sleep Number 360® i10?
The Sleep Number 360® i10 is the tallest of Sleep Number’s Innovation series beds, with a 13-inch profile. The mattress starts with a Smart 3D poly-blend cover that’s designed to be soft, temperature-balancing, and 50 percent more breathable than other fabrics.
- Below the cover is a 7-inch comfort layer, made up of two different types of foam – ThermaLux™ and Ergonomex™. ThermaLux™ is a temperature-balancing material that’s infused with ceramic, which Sleep Number says is four times more conductive than conventional gel foams. Plus, ThermaLux™ doesn’t stiffen in cooler temperatures (unlike traditional memory foam). Ergonomex™ foam is infused with a swirl gel, which is designed to contour close to the sleeper, providing great support. The comfort layer offers seven-zoned support.
- There are two separate air chambers in each i10 mattress, made with 24-gauge vulcanized rubber, with cotton fabric on the exterior. Each air chamber has its own hose and pump, which inflates and deflates the chamber to adjust the Sleep Number i.e. firmness level. DualAir technology allows each sleeper to program their air chamber to suit their individual needs. Sleep numbers are programmed via remote control or the SleepIQ® app.
- A 1-inch foam base pad sits below the air chambers, helping to keep the mattress stable.
The Sleep Number 360® i10 requires a power source within five feet of the bed, as well as a wifi connection.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
You don’t have to worry about unboxing your Sleep Number bed since the company provides a delivery and setup service. However, this comes at an additional cost of 249 dollars and is required with your mattress purchase.
