How Does It Feel?
With its combination of cotton, New Zealand wool, natural latex, and pocketed steel coils, the Silk & Snow Organic feels soft to the touch and a little bouncy. Roll around on the bed and you should feel the bed responding to your movements, which should make changing positions during the night an easier process. Testing the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress: How it Performed

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Silk & Snow states that there’s no official weight limit for their Organic mattress, and our tests found it scored highly for heavyweight sleepers over 230 pounds, except when sleeping on their front.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Side sleepers under 130 pounds will likely find that this mattress is too firm for them, which means they may not get the cushioning they need around their hips and shoulders.
- Average Weight Sleepers – We don’t think this medium-firm mattress will provide the pressure relief that average-weight side sleepers need at the hips and shoulders, especially if they only sleep on their side.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavier side sleepers will experience this mattress as softer, so they’ll feel more sinkage and contouring, providing good pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lighter back sleepers could experience a good balance of cushioning and support, thanks to the soft layers and zoned support coils that should keep the lumbar area lifted.
- Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should also enjoy a nice balance of sinkage and support, with softer coils under the head and legs and firmer coils beneath the hips.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavier back sleepers should feel sufficiently supported and cushioned on this mattress, with the steel coil unit providing balanced support.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The medium-firm feel of the Silk & Snow Organic may be just right for lightweight front sleepers, whose hips should remain level for healthy spine alignment.
- Average Weight Sleepers – This mattress may be okay for average-weight combination sleepers who only spend a little time on their front, but strict stomach sleepers will likely require a firmer mattress to keep their hips from sinking too far into the bed.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We don’t recommend this bed for heavier stomach sleepers, who will likely experience a lot of sinkage at the hips, causing lower back pain.
Pressure Relief & Pain
The Silk & Snow Organic performed well in our pressure relief tests for back sleepers in all positions, offering comfortable cushioning while keeping the spine in its correct and healthy alignment. In general, we think that most side sleepers would require a softer mattress to get the pressure relief they require, especially at the hips, where we noticed more pressure. However, heavyweight side sleepers could do well on this bed since it’ll feel softer for them and therefore, deliver more cushioning.
Back Pain – Back sleepers with back pain should feel comfortable on the Silk & Snow Organic, as we experienced good pressure relief and support in this position. However, we think most stomach sleepers will likely be better off on a firmer mattress, with the exception of those who are very petite.
Hip Pain – Those with hip pain who sleep on their back should enjoy comfortable pressure relief on this mattress. However, side sleepers are unlikely to experience the necessary sinkage, and stomach sleepers will likely sink too far, causing pressure buildup.
Shoulder Pain – We think this mattress is too firm for most side sleepers with shoulder pain, though plus-size sleepers may do okay on it, and back sleepers should feel nice pressure relief on their shoulders.
Support
The Silk & Snow Organic offers great support for back sleepers as it features zoned support in its innerspring unit. This means that there are softer coils on the top and bottom thirds of the mattress (where your head, shoulders, and feet are) and firmer coils in the middle third (where your hips are). The firmer coils help keep your lumbar area lifted, placing your spine in optimal alignment.
The mattress also has good edge support, thanks to even firmer coils around the perimeter, which are designed to stop you from rolling out of bed when sleeping close to the edge – great news for couples.
Motion Transfer
The Silk & Snow Organic features a steel coil unit and a natural latex layer, both of which offer bounce. The downside of this is that the bed rates average when it comes to motion isolation. This means you’re likely to feel a partner getting in and out of bed and may also feel them tossing and turning during the night, which could be an issue if you’re a light sleeper.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
While this mattress delivers decent cooling by way of a breathable cover and a coil unit that fosters airflow, it could still sleep too warm for some people such as exceptionally hot sleepers those who live in warmer climates.
Performance for Couples
The Silk & Snow Organic’s medium-firm rating may be a good one for couples looking to compromise on their firmness preferences. When it comes to sex, many couples prefer a fairly bouncy mattress, and this one offers a good level of that from the latex layer and coil unit. The mattress also features extra-firm coils around the perimeter, which provide good edge support, allowing partners to spread out on the bed without feeling like they’re going to roll off.
However, we found the motion isolation in the Silk & Snow Organic to be average, so you may feel slightly disturbed if your partner moves a lot during the night or gets in and out of bed at a different time than you.

- Below the organic cover is a 1-inch layer of sustainable New Zealand wool, which provides cushioning and acts as a natural fire retardant, avoiding the use of chemical alternatives.
- The comfort layer has 2.5 inches of Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified organic and carbon-neutral Dunlop latex. This certification ensures the purity and organic status of natural latex rubber, which is used instead of synthetic latex. This material makes the bed soft with gentle contouring, while also providing durability. In fact, natural latex mattresses are considered to be among the most long-lasting in the industry as they can remain firm and responsive for well over a decade.
- The zoned support layer features dense, individually-pocketed steel coils. Soft coils on the outer thirds of the mattress and firmer coils on the inner third provide targeted support to promote a healthy back alignment. Coils also allow for more airflow, helping to keep the mattress cool rather than trapping body heat.

While it may take up to 72 hours for the mattress to fully expand, you can lie down for a nap right away.
