Looking for a medium-firm mattress that offers pressure relief, good edge support, and great motion isolation? The DreamCloud Premier and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud® tick all those boxes, but they may suit slightly different shoppers.

The DreamCloud Premier is a hybrid, featuring a Euro top, a coil unit, and foam layers that offer a gentle cradle, while the TEMPUR-Cloud® is an all-foam bed, made from NASA-developed Tempur® foam, providing a slow-moving feel and the ‘deep hug’ of traditional memory foam.

Both beds offer great pressure relief for light to average-weight side and back sleepers, but is that enough to sway you? Read on for more.

Comparing DreamCloud Premier vs Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud®: Top Similarities

• Firmness – The DreamCloud Premier and TEMPUR-Cloud® come in at 5.5 and 6.5 out of 10 respectively on the firmness scale, making them both medium-firm. However, as it’s a little firmer, the TEMPUR-Cloud® may be able to accommodate slightly heavier people.
• Sleeps hot – Neither bed offers much in the way of cooling technology, and with their multiple layers of heat-trapping foam, they both sleep rather hot. This is something to consider for those living in warmer climates or people who tend to overheat when sharing a bed.
• Edge support – Both beds offer good edge support, thanks to the DreamCloud Premier’s stronger perimeter coils and the TEMPUR-Cloud®’s high-density foam. This is an essential element in mattresses for couples.

Comparing DreamCloud Premier vs Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud®: Key Differences

• Body contouring – If you’re after the deep hug of traditional memory foam, then the TEMPUR-Cloud® could be the bed for you. Those looking for more of a gentle cradle would be better suited to the DreamCloud Premier.
• Construction – The DreamCloud Premier is a hybrid mattress, while the TEMPUR-Cloud® is an all-foam mattress. The DreamCloud Premier’s coil unit offers slightly more bounce than the TEMPUR-Cloud®, though not as much as some other hybrids.
• Trial and warranty – The DreamCloud offers one of the longest trials in the industry, letting you sleep on your decision for 365 nights, with a lifetime warranty. You’ll only have 90 nights with the TEMPUR-Cloud®, and a 10-year limited warranty.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with one being incredibly soft and 10 being extremely firm. The TEMPUR-Cloud® places at 6.5, which is the industry standard for medium-firm, while the DreamCloud Premier is slightly softer, at 5.5. We think both beds would suit light to average-weight back and side sleepers, while exceptionally lightweight stomach sleepers may also find enough support from both.

Support

While the DreamCloud Premier does offer tailored support from its coil system and supportive foams, it’s unlikely to be a good mattress for stomach sleepers, who require an extra lift in the hip area to keep the spine in proper alignment. We don’t think this bed is supportive enough for most heavyweight sleepers over 230 pounds.

Heavier side and back sleepers weighing up to 300 pounds may feel well supported on the TEMPUR-Cloud®, but stomach sleepers will likely require a firmer bed to avoid aches and pains.

Feel

The DreamCloud Premier is delivered compressed in a box and may take 24-72 hours to fully expand. While lying down on this bed, the mattress should feel plush, and the cover should feel durable.

The TEMPUR-Cloud® arrives compressed in a bag and expands to full size within minutes of being unrolled. As with the DreamCloud Premier, this mattress should feel soft to the touch with a durable, well-made cover.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

Lying down on the DreamCloud Premier, you’ll feel a gentle cradle from the memory foam as it contours your body, giving you some of that ‘in-the-bed’ feel without being completely enveloped. The TEMPUR-Cloud® offers a little more sinkage, for that classic memory foam ‘body hug’ feel. Light-to-average-weight side and back sleepers could experience a great balance of excellent pressure relief and support from both beds.

The DreamCloud Premier has a small amount of bounce from its coil unit, but not as much as some other hybrids, which may be an issue for sexually active couples. With its incredibly slow-moving foam, the TEMPUR-Cloud® offers zero bounce.

Comparing Motion Transfer

What a bed lacks in bounce, it usually makes up for in motion isolation, which both beds excel in. Motion transfer is a key factor for couples where one is a light sleeper and the other is restless, as you don’t want to feel disturbed by movement from one side of the bed to the other.

As the TEMPUR-Cloud® is all-foam, it offers slightly superior motion isolation to the DreamCloud Premier, which is a hybrid. However, we still don’t think sleepers will feel much of their partner tossing and turning on the DreamCloud Premier.

Comparing Cooling

Neither bed offers much in the way of cooling technology, which may be an issue for sweaty sleepers or those who live in a hot, humid climate. The DreamCloud Premier has a coil unit, which allows for airflow and breathability, but its foam layers trap a fair amount of heat, making the bed warmer than your average hybrid.

Despite having a breathable cover, the TEMPUR-Cloud® also sleeps hot, with its multiple layers of heat-trapping foam. Exceptionally hot sleepers should take a look at our picks of top-performing cooling mattresses, which offer more in the way of temperature regulation.

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

DreamCloud Premier Construction

The 14-inch DreamCloud Premier has a breathable cashmere-blend cover that’s quilted to two layers of foam, to make the plush Euro top.

• The first layer is made from 1 inch of memory foam and sits right below the cover, offering gentle cradling.
• The next layer features 1 inch of soft foam, supporting the above layer to make it feel even more plush.
• The transition layer has 2.5 inches of dynamic foam, helping to keep the spine in healthy alignment while easing you into the support layer below.
• The coil unit is made up of 8.5-inch individual-wrapped coils, offering airflow and breathability, support, and motion isolation. Thicker coils around the perimeter of the bed offer edge support.
• The base features 1 inch of standard foam, offering support and stability for the rest of the bed. The lower cover is shift-resistant for further stability, and has four handles, allowing you to set up or move the mattress with ease.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud® Construction

The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud® is a 10-inch all-foam mattress, starting with a 360° premium stretch cover that’s designed to move with the sleeper, as well as being moisture-wicking and breathable.

• Below the cover is a comfort layer of soft Tempur® foam. This memory foam was invented by NASA in the 1970s as a way of cushioning astronauts on takeoff and was later developed by scientists to use in mattresses. Tempur-Pedic is the only mattress brand to use the original Tempur® foam, which is designed to be slow-moving and comfortable, offering incredible pressure relief and motion isolation.
• The support layer is made from a firmer version of Tempur® foam that’s even more slow-moving than the comfort layer. This foam adapts and conforms to the body, providing contouring and further pressure relief.
• The base layer features firm foam that provides durability and support for the rest of the mattress.

• Warranty – The DreamCloud Premier comes with a lifetime warranty, while the TEMPUR-Cloud® has a 10-year limited warranty.
• Shipping – Both mattresses ship for free to the contiguous United States, with additional fees for Alaska and Hawaii. White glove delivery is 149 dollars for the DreamCloud Premier and isn’t offered with the TEMPUR-Cloud®.
• Trial Period – You have 365 nights to decide if the DreamCloud Premier is for you and 90 nights with the TEMPUR-Cloud®.
• Returns – Returns are free for both mattresses if returned within the trial periods. Full refunds will be issued.
• Price – The TEMPUR-Cloud® comes in at a higher price point than the DreamCloud Premier, so expect to pay from 400 to 800 dollars more, depending on size.

Final Thoughts: DreamCloud Premier vs. TEMPUR-Cloud®?

The DreamCloud Premier and TEMPUR-Cloud® mattresses are both medium-firm mattresses, potentially making them suitable for light to average-weight side and back sleepers. Lightweight stomach sleepers may also get the support they need from both mattresses. As it’s slightly firmer, the TEMPUR-Cloud® could also suit heavyweight side and back sleepers weighing up to 300 pounds.

Hybrid fans may love the slight bounce of the DreamCloud Premier, while memory fan devotees will likely appreciate the enveloping hug of the TEMPUR-Cloud®’s all-foam design.

Budget-conscious shoppers may prefer the DreamCloud Premier, as it comes at a lower price point.
