Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
We test pillows in various sleeping positions to see how they support the neck and head. We’re also on the lookout for pressure relief and whether the pillow helps relieve pressure or can potentially cause tension. During our tests, we also pay attention to things like overall feel, durability, ease of maintenance, temperature, and off-gassing to help sleepers decide if this is the right pillow for them.
What is the TEMPUR-Neck Pillow Made of?
Cover
This pillow has a polyester knit cover with a zipper along the edge, which allows you to remove the cover for easy washing. The cover is also machine washable, making it a breeze to keep clean. On top of that, the material is hypoallergenic, so it’s a good option for people with allergies.
Core
The core of the TEMPUR-Neck™ pillow is made from Tempur® foam, a proprietary material molded into an ergonomic shape. The wave of the pillow is created to follow the natural curves of your neck and head, offering an excellent balance of pressure relief and support. There’s also a polyester netting wrapped around the core to further protect it.
TEMPUR-Neck™ Pillow Firmness & Feel
Firmness
The company claims this pillow is extra-firm, but we’d say it’s more of a standard firm feel. In other words, it’s a firm pillow, but not as rigid as you might expect. Although there’s enough firmness to keep your head and neck aligned with the rest of the body, the pillow still allows some sinkage. This is good for pressure relief as it’s unlikely to create any tension in the neck.
Feel
You should feel the memory foam molding and contouring around your head and neck. This slow response adds to the overall comfort, ensuring you always stay on top of the pillow instead of sinking all the way through. The cover feels nice and gentle, but you’re advised to use a pillowcase even though it’s washable.
Loft
One of the best things about this pillow is that you can choose between three sizes. The pillow comes in small, medium, and large. Because the pillow is curved, the loft measures from the highest point where your neck is supposed to be. The large model has a loft of 4.75 inches, the medium is 4 inches, and the small is 3.5 inches. You can find a measuring chart on the company’s website if you need more help deciding on a size.
Weight (Density of the Pillow)
This pillow feels heavy and well-made, but we couldn’t find any particular information on how dense the foam actually is. Nonetheless, the foam feels dense and durable, so the pillow should last a long time before showing signs of wear and tear.
Sleeping on the TEMPUR-Neck™ Pillow
Lying on this pillow felt comfortable for back and side sleeping. Rolling over on the stomach didn’t feel as good due to the shape of the pillow and the loft. The slow response makes you sink only a bit and slowly so that you don’t feel trapped inside the pillow.
Side Sleepers![]() | Back Sleepers![]() | Stomach Sleepers![]() |
---|---|---|
★★★ | ★★★ | ☆☆☆ |
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers should appreciate the ergonomic shape and firmness of this pillow. The higher point goes where the neck is, filling the gap between your neck and the bed. It offers good support without as much sinking, so you won’t feel trapped. Although it’s firm, it contours around the curves, so it’s unlikely you’d feel any pressure buildup.

Back Sleepers
Back sleeping felt equally comfortable as the pillow supports the head and neck in alignment. The ergonomic shape helps keep the spine neutral, offering just enough sinkage to prevent pressure.

Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers are likely to find this pillow too lofty and uncomfortable. Even the small size with the lowest loft didn’t feel right due to the pillow’s ergonomic shape.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the TEMPUR-Neck™ Pillow
Temperature
The TEMPUR-Neck™ pillow is made from memory foam, which may not be the best option for those who sleep hot. The cover also isn’t designed for temperature regulation, so you might feel heat building up around your head. Read more about cooling pillows here.
Support
This pillow didn’t disappoint when it comes to support. As said, it feels dense and supportive enough as it doesn’t allow the head to sink too deeply. As a result, the pillow feels good in the neck area, keeping it aligned with the rest of the spine.
Durability
This pillow comes from a high-quality, reputable brand, so you can expect it to be durable. Furthermore, memory foam is a premium material, so the pillow is unlikely to show signs of wear and tear as quickly. In general, we felt that it was well-made and it could handle multiple years of use.
Comfort
The ergonomic design of this neck pillow offers high-level comfort. The foam molds around your head and neck to prevent pressure from building up. On top of that, it doesn’t allow you to sink too deeply into the pillow. However, the fact that it allows heat buildup may be a turn-off for some people.
Off-Gassing
Memory foam is known to have off-gassing odors noticeable when you first remove the product from its packaging. However, any odors you may notice should dissipate within the first 24 hours.
Allergens
The TEMPUR-Neck™ pillow has a hypoallergenic cover, so it’s a good option for people with allergies. On top of that, the memory foam in this pillow is CertiPUR-US® certified.
Cleaning & Care
You can remove the cover for machine washing. However, the foam core isn’t washable, though you can spot-clean it should you want to freshen it up a little.
Sleep Trial & Warranty
The company has a strict policy in which they don’t offer any trials for their pillows due to the personal nature of the product. However, there’s a five-year warranty on this pillow.

Our Final Thoughts on the TEMPUR-Neck™ Pillow
In our opinion, the TEMPUR-Neck™ could improve your sleeping experience by offering a balance of support and pressure relief. The ergonomic design fits like a glove, more so since the pillow comes in three sizes, so you can easily find one that fits your neck curves.
The firm feel may not be for everyone, but we think there’s enough sinkage to prevent tension in the neck and head. This pillow shouldn’t have you waking up with a sore ear like some memory foam pillows tend to do. Still, it’s not the best option for stomach sleepers due to the curved design and slightly higher loft.
