Watch My Video Review of Tempur-Pedic Mattresses:
Who I Recommend The Tempur-Pedic Brand For:
- People who need exceptional pressure relief – In each Tempur-Pedic mattress, the brand capitalizes on pressure relief by incorporating proprietary materials designed with this purpose in mind. Along with their standard TEMPUR® Material, the brand also infuses enhanced versions of this material into their upgraded models, such as the PRObreeze°, ProAdapt®, LUXEbreeze°, and LuxeAdapt®.
- Shoppers seeking affordable luxury options – Tempur-Pedic mattresses can offer impressive features, including cooling, pressure relief, and support. The exceptional design and quality of materials also mean these beds will come with a higher price tag, but by shopping online, you can access these high-end options at a lower price than you’d find in-store.
Who I Don’t Recommend The Tempur-Pedic Brand For:
- Budget mattress shoppers – There’s plenty to love about Tempur-Pedic beds, and you can expect well-made products from this notable brand. However, the higher price point for Tempur-Pedic mattresses may not suit all budgets. If you don’t want to spend as much money, you might prefer budget mattress brands that can offer similar benefits but at a lower cost.
- People who prefer latex mattresses – Tempur-Pedic is known for their premium memory foam beds. However, if you love the feel and performance of latex mattresses, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere as this brand doesn’t include latex models.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: TEMPUR-Cloud®: 6.5/10, TEMPUR-Adapt® Collection: Multiple Firmness Options, TEMPUR-breeze° Collection: Multiple Firmness Options
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
With Tempur-Pedic, you can get sufficient customization in regard to mattress firmness options. The TEMPUR-Adapt® and TEMPUR-breeze° collections both offer multiple firmness options, including Soft, Medium, and Firm models, and although the TEMPUR-Cloud® bed only comes in a medium-firm feel, this is a highly versatile firmness and should accommodate most sleepers.
For sleepers who weigh lighter than average or who want more cushioning in their mattress, a soft Tempur-Pedic bed could be a nice fit. On the other hand, heavier people and stomach sleepers may feel better accommodated on a Firm model.
How Does it Feel?
Tempur-Pedic mattresses are all made with memory foam, which means when you lie on them, you should experience more sinkage than you would feel with other types of beds. That sinkage should also help you feel less pressure while on the mattress. Along with sinkage and pressure relief, you should expect to feel minimal motion transfer, which is another quality that memory foam delivers well on.
What I Like About Tempur-Pedic
- Memory foam – They incorporate proprietary memory foam in all their mattresses.
- Cooling – Each bed contains cooling mechanisms to prevent the memory foam from overheating.
- Tailored needs – They have collections geared toward shoppers with more tailored needs, such as advanced pressure relief and cooling.
Our Tempur-Pedic Complaints
- Higher price – They come at a higher price, particularly the upgraded mattresses.
- Some limitations – Their coolest bed, the LUXEbreeze°, only comes in a Soft or Firm version.
- Shorter trial -Their 90-night trial isn’t as long as other competitors, some of whom offer a full year.
Testing Tempur-Pedic Mattresses: How They Performed
When I test out mattresses, there are several factors that I look at. I analyze qualities like pressure relief, support, firmness, motion isolation, bounce, edge support, and cooling. I also assess how these beds rate for different sleep positions, as well as whether I think they’re ideal for couples.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to Tempur-Pedic, their mattresses don’t have a weight limit. However, they note that their foundations and adjustable bases do have weight limits. The weight limit for smaller foundations is 400 pounds and 800 pounds for Queen-size and up. For their adjustable bases, the weight limit (including the mattress) is 650 pounds.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lighter than average sleepers should love the sinkage from Tempur-Pedic beds but will likely feel most cozy on the company’s softer models.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Since almost all Tempur-Pedic mattresses are available in a medium firmness, this brand is highly accommodating for average-weight side sleepers, who should experience pressure relief in the hips and shoulders without losing support.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight individuals who sleep on their should enjoy some of the Tempur-Pedic models but will want to avoid anything too soft that could compromise spinal alignment.
Are you a side sleeper? Explore our picks for the best TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses for side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should be a good fit with this brand, which has plenty of medium-firm beds to accommodate their sleep style.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – This is another group that will likely enjoy Tempur-Pedic beds, particularly the medium-firm selections.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavier back sleepers are more limited but should do okay with the firm mattresses in Tempur-Pedic’s inventory.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should find plenty of options for their weight and sleep position, though the medium-firm beds will likely suit them best.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-size stomach sleepers should enjoy Tempur-Pedic beds, but because of the potential sinkage, they will want to stick to medium-firm or firm models.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Some heavyweight stomach sleepers may find the firm models from this brand to be okay, but in general, we don’t think they will deliver enough rigid support to accommodate this group and keep their midsection from dipping.
Pressure Relief & Pain
Tempur-Pedic’s claim to fame is pressure relief, which is provided by their memory foam. As a result, each mattress should deliver solace from achy joints and muscles.
That being said, it’s important to select the appropriate mattress firmness for your sleep position and body weight so you can reap the most benefits. For instance, if you’re a side sleeper under 130 pounds and get a firm Tempur-Pedic bed, you might not experience the kind of pressure relief you want.
Back Pain – People with back pain should find good relief with Tempur-Pedic mattresses, particularly with the TEMPUR-Cloud® and TEMPUR-ProAdapt®. These beds should be able to keep the spine aligned to prevent back pain from worsening while soothing achiness through the conforming memory foam.
Hip Pain – Hip pain will likely feel most obvious to side and stomach sleepers. Thanks to the sinkage provided by the memory foam, this line of mattresses should do well for those in need of relief on their hips.
Shoulder Pain – These beds should also help mitigate pain in the shoulders thanks to their use of memory foam. Side sleepers, in particular, should enjoy the cradling these foams provide for their shoulders in order to ease discomfort.
Discover our picks for the best mattress for back pain or the best mattress for hip pain.
Support
While Tempur-Pedic may be famous for pressure relief, they’re no slouch when it comes to support. In fact, these beds should provide most sleepers with the necessary balance of pressure relief and support required for optimal rest.
Perhaps the best thing about this company, however, is that they offer excellent customization to ensure you get the level of support you need. Along with multiple firmness levels in most of their mattresses, you can also choose from an all-foam or hybrid version in each collection. This is great because some sleepers find that hybrids give them more support than all-foam models.
Motion Transfer
Memory foam is often celebrated for its excellent pressure-relieving capabilities, but the truth is that it’s also ideal for curbing motion transfer. This means that movement on one side of the mattress shouldn’t be felt on the other side of the bed. For optimal motion isolation, though, I recommend the all-foam versions since the coils in hybrids could allow for some motion transfer.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
The great news for hot sleepers is that every Tempur-Pedic has some sort of cooling capability added to it. This is helpful because memory foam has a reputation for overheating. However, those who need extra cooling should love the TEMPUR-breeze° Collection, which focuses on enhanced cooling. Plus, getting a hybrid version should provide added airflow throughout the mattress.
Performance for Couples
Most Tempur-Pedic beds should fit couples well. There are several reasons for this. First, the brand offers many medium-firm choices, which is ideal for partners sharing a bed because it’s a more universally accommodating feel. Second, the motion isolation from the memory foam means one partner is less likely to disturb the other if they move around at night, particularly with the all-foam options.

Preference-based Features
Multiple Firmness and Construction Options
Tempur-Pedic offers different choices when it comes to the firmness and construction of their mattresses, including Soft, Medium, Medium-Hybrid, and Firm.
Cooling
Tempur-Pedic makes sure each model has a cooling feature added to it, but it’s the brand’s TEMPUR-breeze° line that stands out for cooling. This line of beds is made to sleep 3 degrees cooler (PRObreeze°) or 8 degrees cooler (LUXEbreeze°).
Motion Isolation
By including memory in each bed, this brand should excel at motion isolation. This is incredibly useful for couples, especially light sleepers who are easily disturbed by their partner’s movements.
Adjustable Base Compatible
The brand sells their own line of power adjustable bases that you can purchase with your Tempur-Pedic mattress before checking out.
Find our picks for the best adjustable bases here.
Construction: What’s Inside Tempur-Pedic beds?
Tempur-Pedic beds are available as either all-foam or hybrid models, and with different mattress lines in their inventory, this means you get lots of variation in construction. For this section, I will focus on the construction of the all-foam version of the TEMPUR-Cloud® mattress.
The TEMPUR-Cloud® has a 10-inch high profile. At the top of this mattress is the 360° Stretch Cover. The purpose of this cover is to provide a moisture-wicking and breathable surface.
- Below the cover is the TEMPUR® Comfort Layer. This unit contains proprietary TEMPUR® material, which is made to be soft and responsive to provide a soft cushion at the top.
- The TEMPUR® Support Layer is slightly thicker and is a firmer version of the TEMPUR® foam. While the previous unit focuses on softness and cushioning, this layer should adapt to the sleeper and ensure they receive adequate pressure relief throughout their body.
- The final layer is a base foam that’s thicker than the top two units. This foam is where the sleeper should experience firm support to keep their body lifted and their spine well-aligned. Another benefit of the foam base is durability, helping to ensure this bed stands the test of time.
The main difference between the Medium and Medium Hybrid versions of the TEMPUR-Cloud® is the addition of coils. In the case of the Medium Hybrid model, the coil unit sits in between the TEMPUR® Support Layer and the Base.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
With the exception of the TEMPUR-Cloud®, the company includes complimentary White Glove Delivery, which means a team of professionals will deliver and set up your new bed for you. If you get the TEMPUR-Cloud®, the bed is rolled up in a bag and shipped to you inside a box. After unboxing, you can unroll the bed and let it expand to its full size.
Tempur-Pedic mattresses contain memory foam, so you’ll likely experience some off-gassing, which is like a new car smell for mattresses. The company says the odor should fully dissipate within a week or two and that airing out the mattress should help with this process.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in Tempur-Pedic mattresses are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.
Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping
- Shipping – Shipping is free within the contiguous United States. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories is available for an additional fee.
- White-Glove Delivery – Aside from the TEMPUR-Cloud®, professional installation is included with the price and will be arranged at your time of purchase. No heavy lifting!
- Trial – You can keep this product for 90 nights to make sure it’s your dream mattress, and if it isn’t, the company will refund your money.
- Warranty – There is a warranty on this brand for 10 years.
- Return Policy – In order to return a Tempur-Pedic mattress, you must have it for at least 30 nights. If you still don’t like the mattress and it’s within the 90-night trial period, you can call the company and receive a refund.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the cons of a Tempur-Pedic mattress?
The biggest con of a Tempur-Pedic mattress is the price. That being said, getting a well-made mattress could save you money in the long run. A more durable, high-end bed will last you longer than a cheap, poorly-made product so you won’t need to replace your bed as soon.
Are Tempur-Pedic mattresses worth the hype?
Yes, Tempur-Pedic mattresses are worth the hype if you’re in need of quality pressure relief and prefer the slow-moving feel of memory foam. However, memory foam mattresses aren’t for everyone, which is why it’s good to do your research to ensure this is the right brand for you.
Do Tempur-Pedic mattresses sag over time?
Yes, as with all mattresses, a Tempur-Pedic bed will eventually sag over time due to natural wear and tear. However, these are high-quality mattresses, so they shouldn’t sag as early as lower-end brands.
Explore our picks for the Best Mattresses That Won’t Sag
How much do Tempur-Pedic mattresses cost?
Tempur-Pedic mattresses will cost anywhere from 1,899 to 9,898 dollars. However, this depends on both the model and the size of the mattress. The TEMPUR-Cloud® is the cheapest model, and the LUXEbreeze° is the most expensive one.
How long will my Tempur-Pedic mattress last?
If you take proper care of your mattress, you should expect your Tempur-Pedic bed to last roughly 10 years.

Overall Summary
I’m fascinated by a bed made by rocket scientists, and impressed by its cooling design and unique approach to pressure relief and support. While its unique feel may not be for everyone, I appreciate TEMPUR’s take on a pressure-relieving, yet still supportive mattress.
Side Sleepers
5/5
Side sleepers should love the high-quality proprietary memory foam that’s made Tempur-Pedic famous. You should feel the memory foam cradle your shoulders and hips, alleviating pressure in the process. Furthermore, the brand offers everything from soft to firm feels, which means they can cater to all body types.
Back Sleepers
5/5
Another group that should love the Tempur-Pedic brand is back sleepers. These beds should provide a nice balance of pressure relief and support that’s ideal for back sleeping, and nearly each Tempur-Pedic is available in a medium firmness that compelemnts back sleepers well.
Stomach Sleepers
4/5
Stomach sleepers often need firmer beds that keep their midsection elevated, and pressure relief isn’t as much of a concern as support is. Tempur-Pedic offers some firmer options for stomach sleepers. That being said, the cost is significant if pressure relief isn’t a big concern, so you might prefer a cheaper brand with firmer beds.
Combination Sleepers
4/5
Combination sleepers are usually a great match with medium-firm beds that also have some bounce for easy navigation. If you’re a combination sleeper with your eye on Tempur-Pedic, I recommend going with the hybrid options since the coils can provide some extra bounce against the slow-moving memory foam.
Couples
4/5
Tempur-Pedic is a great match for people who share a bed with a partner. Their beds, which include memory foam in every model, should isolate motion well since memory foam is great at this feature. Plus, if you or your partner sleep hot, there’s the option to select from their TEMPUR-breeze° cooling line.
Heavy Sleepers
3/5
People weighing above 230 pounds are more limited with their options for Tempur-Pedic beds, but I do think that the firmer hybrid models could provide the best support. The good news is the company also offers a 90-night trial period to test out the beds to see how they work with your body type and sleep style.
Lightweight Sleepers
4/5
Sleepers who are lighter in weight should do well with most Tempur-Pedic beds thanks to the pressure-relieving memory foam. While back and side sleepers should like the medium models, side sleepers might opt for the softer picks for a more cushiony surface against their hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Sleepers
4/5
Tempur-Pedic is a great brand for people in the average-weight range from 130-230 pounds. Plus, they offer mattresses from soft to firm, so they can cater to different sleep positions. If you’re not sure, though, I recommend going with a medium-feel bed since this is the most versatile feel.
Overall Value
4/5
Tempur-Pedic is one of the most famous mattress companies for its innovation in the memory foam sleep space. They offer lots of variety in their inventory, which means they can fit a wide range of sleepers. The higher price can be a drawback for budget shoppers, though, which is why I gave the brand a 4 overall rating.
My Verdict
I think Tempur-Pedic is an exceptional brand for those looking for some of the best beds in the memory foam space. There are lots of different sleepers that I feel could like these mattresses. Among these groups are average and lightweight individuals. However, some heavier sleepers may feel more comfortable on the firmer hybrid Tempur-Pedic models.
I recommend this brand for side and back sleepers, who could benefit from the pressure-relieving capabilities of Tempur-Pedic’s proprietary memory foams. Additionally, couples who worry about disturbing each other with movement should love the motion isolation that memory foam can provide.
