My Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress Review for 2024

Amongst all the mattresses made by Brooklyn Bedding, the Aurora Luxe stands out as the brand’s cooling powerhouse. It’s a hybrid bed with three available firmness levels, a lot of bounce, and heat-fighting components in almost every layer.

As a lead reviewer for Sleep Advisor, I hear a lot of claims about “cooling” mattresses, and I put these promises to the test in our studio. Not only did the Aurora Luxe receive high marks for cooling, but I also awarded it a perfect score in the support category.

However, just because this mattress is chill and supportive doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for everyone. Read on to see how it performed across other metrics and which sleep styles it suits the most.

Note: I tested the Medium model of this bed, which is designed to accommodate the widest range of comfort preferences.

Pros
This mattress is made with high-quality materials such as gel memory foam and individually-encased Ascension® coils.
The foam layers cradle your curves, providing sleepers with comforting pressure relief.
The gel and copper-infused foams combined with the cooling technology and coil base make this bed incredibly cool.
Cons
The Aurora Luxe is going to feel a bit heavier than other options which may make it difficult to move or rearrange.
While the Aurora Luxe offers an impressive amount of value for the price, its price point is unlikely to accommodate those on a tight budget.

Who I Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe For:

  • Hot sleepers– Brooklyn Bedding has gone to exceptional lengths to incorporate cooling features in multiple layers of the Aurora Luxe Cooling. The cover also feels cool to the touch.
  • Shoppers looking for affordable luxury – For those who want a premium mattress without the premium price tag, the Aurora Luxe may be right up your alley. Brooklyn Bedding owns and operates their manufacturing process which helps them deliver luxury features at an affordable price.
  • Sleepers who enjoy bounce – If you love the springy feel that coils give, the Aurora Luxe Cooling may be the bed for you. My colleague Mark, who also tested the Aurora Luxe, called it “an incredibly bouncy bed.”

Who I Don’t Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe For:

  • Those who prefer an all-foam feel – While this mattress contains pressure-relieving memory foam, it won’t provide the same huggable sensation as a true memory foam mattress. The foam comfort layers contour to sensitive spots, but you’re likely to stay atop for the most part.
  • Heavyweight side sleepers – Although I think this bed would work fine for heavy back and stomach sleepers, heavyweight side sleepers may notice lots of uncomfortable pressure buildup. Brooklyn Bedding suggests the Titan Plus mattress for those over 300 pounds, as it’s specifically designed for heavyweight sleepers.

Customer Reviews of the Aurora Luxe Mattress

On Brooklyn Bedding’s site, the Aurora Luxe has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers praise the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress for its advanced cooling features, but some have mentioned that it is relatively expensive compared to other options.

Testing the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: How it Performed

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs.

I tested the Aurora Luxe mattress in each sleep position to better examine who this mattress is best suited for. Body weight can also affect how you experience a mattress, so I made sure to consider this factor as well. Additionally, I examined qualities such as supportiveness, responsiveness, motion isolation, temperature regulation, and more. I also had my colleagues Emma and Mark give their two cents on some of these factors as they also tested this bed.

For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Lightweight Back Sleeping
Lead Product Tester, Loren Bullock, testing out the Aurora Luxe mattress.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 7/10 (Medium)

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

Mattress Firmness Level 7

A major factor to consider when purchasing a mattress is its firmness. Mattress firmness reflects how soft or firm the bed feels when you lie on top of it, and we rate mattress firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the most firm.

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is available in three firmness levels: Soft, Medium, and Firm.

The Medium version of this bed should cater to the widest variety of sleepers because it strikes a nice balance between softness and support. Although the company says this bed has a medium firmness, I found it to feel a little firmer than what I’d call a medium. For this reason, I rated it at 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale. That said, I’m a lightweight sleeper, so those who are heavier may experience a true medium feel.

How Does It Feel?

“When I lay on my side, I notice that the [latex-like] layer cradles my body and relieves pressure in my shoulder and hips.”, said Emma. However, she’s an athletic build and weighs about 140 pounds, and how you experience the mattress will depend on your body frame and weight. I’m petite, and I would have preferred the Soft Aurora Luxe because the Medium model felt a little too firm around my pressure points.

Our mattress testers looking into the mattress construction of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe

The smooth and stretchy top weave of this mattress is soft and luxurious. For the most part, sleepers should feel atop the mattress but not in an uncomfortable way. Thanks to the CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology, you’ll likely notice how cool-to-the-touch the surface of the Aurora Luxe is.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

The Aurora Luxe mattress can support a total of 950 pounds. However, Brooklyn Bedding does suggest the Titan Plus mattress for individuals who weigh over 300 pounds as well as those who want more support.

Below I’ll share my findings for each sleep position as a lightweight sleeper, along with our average-weight tester, Julia Forbes, and our heavyweight tester, Spencer Bland. This way, we’ll give you an accurate analysis for different weight groups.

Side Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – While the Medium option of this bed may be too stiff for lightweight side sleepers, they should be well-served by the Soft model as it can provide more cushioning and pressure relief.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Julia felt the Aurora Luxe is a strong performer for average-weight side sleepers. It offers excellent spine alignment and enough pressure relief for the hips, knees, and shoulders.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Side sleepers over 230 pounds might have an issue with pressure relief here. Instead, I’d recommend the softer version of this bed.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Lightweight Side Sleeping
Loren Bullock, testing the Aurora Luxe in the side sleeping position.

Back Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – I experienced great lumbar support and even weight distribution, but I can see how the Medium Aurora Luxe may still be too rigid for some in this category. If that is the case, the soft option could be a better choice.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Julia felt very comfortable in this position and that it was a really good fit for average-weight back sleepers.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Spencer experienced even weight distribution and good spine alignment on the Medium model, along with minimal tension buildup in the midsection. However, he added that those seeking more support may find the Firm option suits them better.

Stomach Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – I think lightweight stomach sleepers should find that this bed provides both soft contouring for pressure relief and support. The Medium model should be the safest bet, offering excellent weight distribution to prevent any tension.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Julia loved how the Aurora Luxe feels around the lumbar area, supporting the hips from sinking into the mattress. There’s plenty of pressure relief for the hips as well, so you’re unlikely to wake up with any buildup.
Mattress testing the Aurora Luxe in stomach sleeping position
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – The lumbar support is still here, even for heavier stomach sleepers. However, significantly heavier sleepers might still prefer the Titan Plus or Titan Plus Luxe as these beds are designed specifically for heavy people.

Pressure Relief

4/5

Pressure Map of the Aurora Luxe by our Sleep Experts
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Pressure Testing
Conducting the pressure test on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe.

The Aurora Luxe’s comfort foam layers offer minimal cushioning around high-tension areas. This didn’t feel uncomfortable necessarily, but it’s something to keep in mind if you prefer a deep hug. That said, I’m a petite sleeper, but our average-weight tester, Julia, found fantastic relief while side sleeping. Also, if you look at the pressure map above, you’ll notice virtually no pressure for back sleeping, which is also good.

Unfortunately, heavyweight side sleepers may experience too much pressure on the Aurora Luxe Medium.

Is the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

I think Aurora Luxe’s balance of pressure-relieving and supportive materials could be good for those with pain who are trying to sleep more comfortably.

Back Pain

The supportive zoned coils of the Aurora Luxe provide excellent lumbar alignment and should help alleviate back pain by limiting pressure in the lower back area.

Hip Pain

In my opinion, this mattress feels firmer than a medium, so remember that if you have hip pain, the Aurora Luxe might not be the best to relieve that discomfort as it offers minimal contouring for some weight categories.

Shoulder Pain

The same goes for shoulder pain. If you’re a side sleeper, I suggest you think twice if this bed would offer enough pressure relief in that area. If you have shoulder pain, you probably want advanced pressure relief, something this bed is lacking.

Explore more beds for pain relief:

Support

4/5

Emma points out she felt nicely supported even while on her stomach. This is an important factor to consider because stomach sleepers typically need the most support. Without adequate support, your spine may end up in a funny shape, leading to morning aches and pains.

I felt nicely atop the mattress, experiencing nice weight distribution and spine alignment. I’ll add that I felt well-supported in every sleep position, so if you’re a combo sleeper, you’ll appreciate this.

Motion Transfer

3/5

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Motion Transfer Testing

I would say the Aurora Luxe has average motion isolation, given how bouncy the mattress is. Although Emma and Mark were satisfied with its performance, I think this largely depends on the type of sleeper you are. If you’re a light sleeper who wakes up easily, you probably want a bed with better motion isolation. In my opinion, the Aurora Luxe is too springy to isolate big movements typically found in partners with different sleeping habits.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

4/5

The Aurora Luxe incorporates cooling features into almost every inch of this 6-layer mattress. The cover contains GlacioTex™ and “feels noticeably cool to the touch,” as Emma said, while phase change material in the foam layer underneath helps draw heat away from the body.

Although I also found it cool to the touch, the interesting is that during the temperature gun testing, I noticed the mattress takes a little over five minutes to regulate and lower the temperature. However, this may be due to the phase-change material.

Bounce

5/5

Both Mark and Emma said that the Aurora Luxe is a bouncy bed, and I agree with them. The spring-back is excellent and almost instantaneous. Some of this bounce comes from the latex-like top layer, but the majority of it comes from the coils.

The bounciness can help with repositioning, so it’s an excellent quality for combination sleepers, people with limited mobility, and sexually active couples. Plus, it can help with getting in and out of bed.

Edge Support

4/5

Edge support on this bed is right where you’d expect it to be, given that it’s a hybrid mattress and these often do well in this category. When lying near the edge, I felt secure, which is great news for those who want more usable surface space. However, I didn’t feel as stable when sitting on the edge of the bed, which is why I deducted a point.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Edge Support Testing

Performance for Couples

4/5

Couples should prioritize a few key factors when considering mattresses: bounce, motion isolation, and support, to name a few. Luckily for these co-sleepers, the Aurora Luxe should be a good choice. Although it might not have the best motion isolation, couples should appreciate its responsiveness, edge support, and cooling.

Construction: What’s Inside the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress?

This hybrid mattress contains six layers of high-quality, proprietary materials. Additionally, it has multiple cooling features that help it measure up to 13.25 inches in thickness.

  • The first layer is a smooth cover made from proprietary GlacioTex™, which helps the surface stay cool to the touch.
  • Next comes a comfort layer made from 1.5 inches of CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology. CopperFlex™ is a proprietary material from Brooklyn Bedding that’s a latex alternative foam designed to be highly responsive and contour the sleeper’s shape.
  • The second comfort layer is 2 inches of premium memory foam that is extremely strong and should not pose a problem for combination sleepers as it provides added bounce.
  • The transition layer is a 1-inch swirl viscoelastic memory foam, which forms a transitional layer between the foam and support coils and helps to elevate the mattresss’ motion isolation. The foam is infused with gel for further cooling. It ensures added pressure point relief.
  • The support layer is made from 1,032 individually wrapped 8-inch Ascension® coils that provide support, durability, and stability. The coils also help with responsiveness and motion isolation, minimizing partner disturbance.
  • The base layer is made of .75-inch high-density foam that forms the bed’s foundation. This layer acts as a base for the coils as they move under the sleeper’s weight, giving the entire bed more stability.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Aurora Luxe arrives compressed and rolled in a box. Given the weight of this mattress, the unboxing process may be better served as a two-person job. Once you have removed it from the box and torn the plastic seam, the bed should start expanding and taking shape immediately. Once it does, remove all plastic.

Please note that it can take one to three days for this bed to fully expand, and you may notice an odor caused by off-gassing. Although unpleasant, it is harmless and should dissipate quickly. To speed up the process, make sure your mattress is in a well-ventilated room.

Certifications

  • CertiPUR-US® Certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping

  • Shipping – Shipping and returns are free within the continental United States. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii is also available for an additional fee of $125 while shipping to Canada is $250. Shipping charges are non-refundable.
  • Trial – You can try this mattress for 120 nights.

My Verdict

Overall, I gave the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 4.2 out of 5. This mattress should check all the boxes for a wide array of sleepers.

Based on our testing, average-weight sleepers, hot sleepers, and combination sleepers are the best candidates for this mattress. Each of these groups should benefit from the bed’s exceptional bounce and overall support.

While this mattress’s coil base and firmer feel should provide adequate support for some heavyweight sleepers, others might prefer a plus-size mattress designed specifically for them. For those sleepers, I recommend checking out our full list of beds for heavyweight sleepers for more options.
