Who I Recommend the Nectar Premier For:
- Lightweight side sleepers – If you’re under 130 pounds, you should like how the Nectar Premier provides plenty of cushioning for sensitive hips and shoulders, with an abundance of contouring and pressure relief. There’s no pressure buildup whatsoever.
- People with back pain – The Premier has a medium firmness, so it does a good job of keeping you aligned. The foams contour your body, ensuring there’s no gap under your lower back.
- Light sleepers – If you’re someone who wakes up easily, you should appreciate the Premier’s motion-isolating abilities.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Premier For:
- Stomach sleepers – I’m a stomach sleeper, and I know we need a firmer-feeling bed to keep the hips elevated. The Nectar Premier is not firm enough, and the foams get even softer the longer you lie on it as it absorbs more of your body heat.
- Hot sleepers – You might be surprised, given how many cooling features the Nectar Premier has, but I was a little disappointed in its performance when it comes to cooling. It didn’t really do much, and if you’re a particularly hot sleeper, I imagine you’d be left wanting more.
- People with hip pain – When my colleagues and I tested the Nectar Premier for pressure relief, the mattress showed a significant buildup in the hip area for side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds. This leads me to believe it wouldn’t be the best for side sleeping if you have hip pain.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
When our team tests mattresses, we always try each sleeping position, and I’ll have my colleagues help me get a better idea of how the mattress performs for different weight groups. While I’m able to evaluate the bed as an average-weight sleeper, I also get feedback from lightweight and heavier-weight testers.
Apart from the general features like support and pressure relief, we also focus on specific qualities like cooling, motion isolation, bounce, and edge support. In the case of this Nectar bed, for example, the brand makes big claims when it comes to the Premier’s cooling capabilities, so I used a temperature gun to help test this. Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We always rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. I rated the Nectar Premier at 6 out of 10 on the Sleep Advisor firmness scale, which is considered medium-firm.
Most mattresses with this firmness are versatile enough to fit a range of sleepers. However, I wouldn’t rely on its firmness rating alone because there are other factors to look at, such as pressure relief in certain positions. On top of that, I did notice that the Premier gets softer the longer you lie on it, which is probably due to your body heat softening the foam layers.
How Does It Feel?
The Nectar Premier offers a remarkably plush experience but still retains an overall medium firmness. I noticed it felt softer when I was on my side but firmer when I was lying on my back and stomach. Overall, you should feel the foam contouring your body, while the medium-firm feel keeps you supported.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to Nectar, the Premier can support up to 799 pounds, which is roughly 400 pounds per person for co-sleepers.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – I think the Premier should work well for this category. Our lightweight tester, Loren, noticed no pressure buildup, and the support was top-tier.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – In theory, the foam layers and overall firmness should work fine for average-weight side sleepers. but I did notice some pressure buildup around the hips and shoulders.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy sleepers might also feel some pressure around the hips, but because they sink more, it might not be as bad as with average-weight side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – I think lighter back sleepers should get a nice blend of pressure relief and support from the Premier. Loren noted that the Premier has a soft surface that’s also supportive.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Many average-weight back sleepers should feel supported enough in this position. The surface-level sink is rather enjoyable and there’s still plenty of support.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The medium-firm feel does a good job of supporting heavy sleepers in this position. Spencer, our heavyweight tester, noticed some pressure around the hips but nothing too extreme.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The Nectar Premier might work for the lightest stomach sleepers, but keep in mind the mattress becomes softer the longer you lie on it. If I were you, I’d go with a firmer bed for stomach sleeping.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – I think the Nectar Premier will probably be too soft for most average-weight people sleeping on their stomachs. Instead, I’d recommend the Nectar Premier Hybrid for a better lift in the lumbar zone.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – This mattress is not the one for you if you’re a stomach sleeper weighing over 230 pounds.
Pressure Relief

All-foam mattresses usually do a good job of relieving pressure, and overall, the Nectar Premier did fairly well in my testing. The only callout is that I did notice some pressure buildup while I was lying on my side as an average-weight sleeper. Side sleeping is usually the position that needs pressure relief the most, so if you’re concerned about this, I would recommend Nectar’s Original mattress instead for average-weight side sleepers.
Is the Nectar Premier Good for Pain Relief?
The Nectar Premier should work well for people who live with achy shoulders and hips. The mattress has a softer construction that conforms to the curves to prevent pressure from building up in this area.
However, how well it relieves pressure and pain depends on how well its firmness matches your needs. For example, heavier people may prefer a firmer bed, especially if they live with back pain.
Back Pain
The Premier’s ability to help with back pain is greatly limited to the sleeper’s body weight and sleeping position. This is simply because the bed has to be supportive enough to ensure the spine remains aligned. The Premier’s firmness and construction should help lightweight and average-weight sleepers with back pain. On the other hand, stomach sleepers and those well over 230 pounds may want to check out Nectar’s Premier Hybrid model instead.

Hip Pain
Hip pain can be an issue if you’re a side sleeper because the last thing you want is pressure buildup in this area. You should be fine if you’re lightweight, but if you’re anywhere over 130 pounds, the Nectar Premier might not be the best for hip pain.
Shoulder Pain
As with hip pain, some people experiencing shoulder discomfort might find it getting worse with the Nectar Premier. I don’t think you’d have a problem if you’re under 130 pounds and sleeping on your side or back. However, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re over 130 pounds and like sleeping on your side.

Another of our average-weight testers, Emma, pointed out that she felt “well-aligned and supported,” and I have to agree with her. The Nectar Premier has a gel memory foam comfort layer and the Dynamic Response Layer, originally designed for pressure relief and comfort. These layers provide sufficient support to prevent too much sinkage that would throw the spine out of alignment.
Overall, I felt very supported on the Nectar Premier, but my hips were sinking when I was on my stomach. Therefore, I wouldn’t say this is the most supportive bed for stomach sleepers.
Motion Isolation

Motion transfer can be frustrating for co-sleepers and couples, especially if one person is a restless sleeper or has a different sleeping schedule. The Premier is an all-foam bed with memory foam that does an excellent job of absorbing motion so that it doesn’t transfer from one side of the bed to the other.
During my testing, our seismograph picked up very little movement. The Premier’s excellent motion-isolating capabilities are great for co-sleepers who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s nighttime movements.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling

Memory foam beds are usually not the best for hot sleepers because they tend to overheat. For this reason, brands include multiple cooling features to help regulate temperature. The Nectar Premier has gel in its memory foam and a cool-to-the-touch cover. Unfortunately, though, I found this did nothing to provide any cooling.
The polyethylene cover does feel cool to the touch, but this alone isn’t enough for temperature regulation. Before lying on the mattress, the temperature was 67.3 degrees, but the surface got warm quickly. After lying on the bed for five minutes, the temperature went up to 75.5 degrees. It then took nearly 10 minutes for the Premier to go back to its starting temperature.
Overall, the Nectar Premier failed, especially given that cooling is a big marketing point of this bed.

Bounce

I think the Nectar Premier is responsive enough to make it easy for people to switch positions. However, this is not a bouncy bed.
People with mobility issues and couples who prefer more bounce might want to look at the hybrid version of this bed because the coils should be more buoyant. In the case of the Nectar Premier, the responsiveness is just okay.
Edge Support

There is some compression around the edges, which I’d say is normal for a mattress that doesn’t have coils or any other reinforcement in this area.
For a memory foam bed, the Nectar Premier does a good job of keeping you supported if you sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. I think this is a nice benefit for couples as it allows them to use the entire surface of the bed.
Performance for Couples

The Premier doesn’t have a lot to offer to couples except excellent motion isolation. It’s a good option if you’re not a hot sleeper or don’t need a lot of bounce. The edge support of this mattress might also be a good thing for couples as it maximizes the surface they can use.
The hybrid model should have better edge support and also more bounce for sexually active couples. On top of that, if you get particularly hot when curled up, I’d suggest a more advanced cooling bed.

Adjustable Base Compatible
If you want to use your Nectar Premier with an adjustable base, you can order one straight from the Nectar brand. The Nectar adjustable frame has three-zone massaging, head-up and foot-up positions, a TV recline setting, a wireless remote, and USB charging ports.
Construction: What’s Inside the Nectar Premier?
Each Premier mattress is 13 inches thick, specifically engineered to offer restful sleep using a combination of multiple foam layers. The design works well to provide support, body-hugging, and motion isolation.
- The top layer starts with a cool-to-the-touch cover made of premium fibers. It stays cool, but you be the judge whether or not this is enough for you.
- The comfort layer is made of a 3-inch thick gel memory foam with ActiveCool HD. The memory foam has a slow response and excellent pressure relief, so you should feel plenty of contouring and that classic memory foam hug. The phase change material doesn’t do much for cooling, though.
- The supporting layer is a 3-inch conventional foam designed to enhance support as it prevents you from sinking too deeply into the mattress. This layer is probably what’s causing that pressure buildup for some people as it doesn’t allow them to sink enough.
- The base layer is created from 7 inches of high-density polyfoam, providing durable stability to last. This material is denser to support the upper layers and your body weight so that the spine remains neutral.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Nectar ships the Premier to your home rolled up in a box. The unboxing is rather simple since all you have to do is place the box on your foundation of choice before removing all packaging.
Once you remove the packaging, the mattress will start to unroll and decompress, which may take a few hours. If you notice any off-gassing smells, though, you may want to give it another day or two for the odors to dissipate.

- The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.”

What is the difference between the Nectar Classic and Premier?
The two primary differences between the Nectar Classic and the Nectar Premier are the height and the amount of cradling. The Nectar Classic is 12 inches tall, whereas the Premier is 13 inches tall. I also noticed the Premier offers more cradling, while the Nectar Classic is more responsive atop the bed.
Is the Nectar Premier good for heavy people?

My Verdict
The Premier is Nectar’s answer to a pressure relief upgrade, as it’s designed to provide more contouring. Does it deliver? I’m not so sure.
I’d say its pressure-relieving capabilities are pretty good, but there’s some buildup with average-weight side sleepers. Nonetheless, most sleepers should find it comfortable enough.
Cooling is also lacking, given how big of a focal point this is for the Nectar Premier mattress. That said, I liked how well it isolates motion and keeps the edges from collapsing when you lie near the perimeter.
Overall, the Nectar Premier earned a 4 out of 5.
