Can you have a memory bed without using viscoelastic materials?
WinkBed is a well-loved brand that recently introduced one of the world’s first non-viscoelastic memory foam beds. The material was designed to be soft yet supportive, contouring to the body without losing stability. The MemoryLuxe Mattress is one of two new additions to the WinkBed lineup, along with the EcoCloud Mattress.
Our in-depth WinkBed MemoryLux overview takes a look at the features that make this bed unique. This product comes in one of three firmness options: MemoryLux Soft, MemoryLux Medium, and MemoryLux Firm. This review will focus on the Medium model.

Who Do We Think Matches With Winkbed MemoryLux?
- People who need options – With soft, medium, and firm choices, just about all sleepers can find a bed that works for them. Instead of a “one size fits all” approach, having varying levels of firmness allows sleepers to customize their mattress based on sleeping style and preference.
- Memory foam fans – This bed has all the things sleepers love about memory materials, plus a little extra. It is designed to adequately support the body and adds quality cooling to a deep memory experience.
- Sleepers who want optimized alignment – This product offers five-zoned tech designed to help keep the sleeper’s body straight throughout the night, which could help alleviate some pain in sore joints.
Possible Winkbed MemoryLux Complaints:
- Folks who need top-notch edge reinforcement – This mattress features average perimeter support for an all-foam product, but people who order the MemoryLux Firm might find better success, as the denser materials will likely reinforce the edges a bit more. If edge support is a priority, it may be worth looking at the company’s innerspring models, which excel in this category.

The Winkbeds brand was founded in 2014 by lawyer-turned-serial-entrepreneur Dan Adler. Unlike most companies that outsource their manufacturing, every Winkbed mattress is handmade at a Wisconsin factory using the highest quality, eco-friendly materials.
Another aspect that sets this brand apart is its belief that better sleep means better health, which leads to a better quality of life. Known for having one of the strongest guarantees in the industry, this company firmly stands behind the quality of their products.
Construction: What’s inside MemoryLux?
Inside are 11 inches of foam materials. Fitted over this is an eco-friendly material called Tencel, a fabric that is derived from eucalyptus trees. This was made to be extra soft and cool.
By design, Tencel is made to absorb moisture and heat and wick them away to the outside edges of the bed’s surface. Tufted to the Tencel cover is 2 inches of gel-infused foam. This soft material helps further temperature regulation, and the plushness helps foster ideal pressure relief.
- The first layer is a 3-inch AirCell™ Memory Foam. This material was designed to relieve pressure while fostering support in the areas of the body that need it most (hips and lumbar). It was made to be more breathable and sleep cooler than traditional memory foam.
- The second layer is 2 inches of Zoned Progression Foam™ that was made with 5 targeted support areas to help sleepers rest in optimal alignment. It sports firmer support in the hips and is softer beneath the legs and shoulders.
- The third layer is the brand’s 4-inch proprietary Atlas Support Foam™. This is a durable material that supports the sleeper’s body weight and works as the overall foundation of the product.
Both the medium and firm models feature three layers of gel-infused foam, while the soft model has only two layers and also features softer AirCell™ Memory Foam.
First Impression: How Does It Feel?
This mattress ships to your home compressed inside of a box. Once inside, it should fit well on most bed frames, including box springs, slatted platform bases, and adjustable foundations.
The first thing you may notice about this mattress is that it looks just as luxurious as it was designed to feel. The MemoryLux features a diamond-shaped pattern along the sides, button tufting on top, and an attractive navy blue perimeter along the top and bottom edges.
When you first settle into bed, you should immediately notice the pillow-top feel, thanks to gel-infused foam built into the cover. Unlike traditional visco-elastic memory materials that build in heat as they make contact with your body, the inclusion of cooling gel and proprietary AirCell™ Memory Foam should prevent temperature extremes that can disrupt sleep.
The MemoryLux was made to leave sleepers in a deep hugging cradle that contours to the body. This should be especially noticeable as you sink down through the comfort foams, but this transitions into firmer materials that help support the body nicely. The Zoned Progression Foam™ should subtly target different parts of the body to create a more level feel.
Firmness Scale: 4/10 (Soft), 6/10 (Medium), 8 (Firm)
Sleepers looking for pressure relief in key areas like the shoulders and hips should be very impressed with the conforming properties of this bed. The AirCell™ materials were designed to offer targeted pressure point relief by offering a balance of contouring and pushback support in specific zones.
While most all-foam mattresses perform well when it comes to relieving pressure, many leave you sinking deep into the bed where you may feel stuck. Thankfully, this shouldn’t be a problem with MemoryLux. The billions of micro-air capsules were built to act like individual shock absorbers, releasing air as pressure increases so you get customized comfort.
Just as pressure relief is important for your joints, support is important for your spine. The AirCell™foams were designed to mold to your body for dynamic support. The Zoned Progression Foam™ has five unique support zones with varying levels of pressure that should work to keep your spine properly aligned.
The foams should work together to absorb motion and reduce bounce. This does sacrifice some responsiveness, but overall, the pressure-relieving benefits should be worth it. While the materials may not assist moving around, most combination sleepers shouldn’t struggle to change position, though folks who have mobility issues may need to keep this in mind.
Multiple Firmness Options
The company offers this mattress in three levels of firmness so you can customize the feel based on your unique needs. Choose from soft, medium, or firm depending on which position you normally sleep in or how you like your bed to feel.
Optional White Glove Delivery
This is a service where an installation team sets up your product and removes your old mattress.
This brand is all about offering affordable luxury when it comes to your sleeping space. They achieve this by offering their products online and shipping directly to consumers. By removing all of the middlemen, they can keep costs low and pass along the savings to customers.
Traditional visco-elastic foams are known for retaining warmth, which could be an issue for sleepers who struggle with overheating at night. MemoryLux features cooling gel in the cover and its own patented open-cell foam that is designed to allow air to flow freely throughout.
Great Motion Isolation
If you share a bed with a partner or pet, motion isolation may be an important factor. This mattress features AirCell™ foam that was built using patented shock-absorbing air capsules that were designed to minimize motion transfer.
The Winkbeds company considers itself in the wellness industry, not the mattress industry. They care deeply about supporting the health and wellness of people and the environment, which is demonstrated through the use of eco-friendly materials and sustainable manufacturing.
Adjustable Base Compatible
This bed was designed for use with most bed frames, including box springs, slatted platform bases, and adjustable foundations.

WinkBed MemoryLux introduces a new age of memory foam by fostering a pressure-relieving experience without the drawbacks of traditional viscoelastic materials.
Side sleepers often benefit from mattresses with a plush comfort layer. The materials used in this product help to relieve pressure in areas like the hips and shoulders, while the firmer foams beneath are geared towards keeping the body properly supported. Because softness is a key feature side sleepers love, these folks may benefit from the MemoryLux Soft model.
Back sleepers can take advantage of the zoned support this product offers. It should help to keep the body aligned while the soft foams on top work to relieve pressure. Back sleepers who like a firmer bed might want to look into the MemoryLux Firm.
Stomach sleepers might find that they sink too quickly through the comfort materials. Most of these folks will probably be better suited for the MemoryLux Firm. This model would be better at keeping their hips elevated and aligned with their shoulders.
Combination sleepers often change positions throughout the night, so it’s important that the materials work well for a variety of sleeping positions. MemoryLux has a lot of versatility that should allow combination sleepers to feel comforted and well supported regardless of which position they are in. While the foams are a little slower to respond, sleepers should never feel stuck in the mattress when moving around.
Couples who sleep in different positions should both feel comfortable in this medium-firm bed. It contains a good balance of pressure relief and support to cater to both partner’s needs. The MemoryLux was designed to stop motion from ever reaching your partner, so both of you can sleep happily in bed.
People with more significant weight considerations may be better suited towards the WinkBed Plus, as the MemoryLux only supports weights of up to 450 lbs for single sleepers and 900 for co-sleepers.
Many lighter individuals prefer all-foam mattresses that allow their bodies to sink into the layers and experience the full potential of the bed. While this medium-firm option should work well for lighter individuals who sleep on their stomach or back, light side sleepers may want to consider the soft option.
The WinkBed MemoryLux is the brand's first all-foam model, and it does not disappoint. It offers the close contouring and pressure relief that memory lovers are looking for while offering several key updates to the classic material to improve cooling and longevity.
The foams should do an excellent job contouring to your shape and there are plenty of firmnesses to choose from so you can find the correct match. True to the company’s reputation, this mattress is built to be durable and comes with a lifetime warranty that backs the company’s claim.
WinkBed now has a variety of products for sleepers to choose from. If you are still unsure if this bed is for you, be sure to check out one of the brand’s other models that may better suit your needs.
