Can a topper really transform your bed?

What started out in a two bedroom apartment, is now a multinational brand. Sam and Kasie Malouf’s ambition was to sell luxury sleep products at an affordable price. In addition to this cool 2.5-inch memory foam topper, the brand has a line of luxury toppers, pillows, linens, and bed frames all designed to provide affordable luxury.

Our in-depth overview of the Malouf ISOLUS Ventilated Gel Topper highlights the comfort and support features that product can add to your current mattress.

You will love this topper if you:

  • Need improved pressure relief – This brand says that their foam can better conform to sleeper’s shoulders and hips to help defeat pressure.
  • Sleep Hot – This memory material uses what the company calls a Triple Cooling Combination. The open cell construction is ventilated with pinholes throughout to help with airflow. If that was not enough, the material is infused with gel and covered with breathable bamboo.
  • Want Motion Isolation – Do wake up every time your restless partner gets up to go to the bathroom? If so, you are likely dealing with poor motion isolation. Adding the Isolus 2.5-inch gel memory foam over your mattress should help to significantly dampen these movements.

You might not like this topper if you:

  • Don’t enjoy memory foam – Maybe are not a fan of the sinking feeling of memory foam. It could be worth knowing that memory foam technology has come a long way in the last few years. Materials like this use gels and ventilation to keep it from overheating and this design is not overly soft for sleepers who like more of a medium feel.

In that case you can see our top rated toppers and pads for 2019 here.

Construction (Materials & Quality)

This product is delivered compressed in a box. Setup is relatively simple, as it just needs to unboxed and rolled over your mattress.

This topper is covered with an incredibly soft rayon fabric that comes from bamboo. This is both hypoallergenic and resistant to mildew. The natural pores from the bamboo also help to make this material breathable.

This design is 2.5 inches thick and was made to wipe away pressure and wick away heat. It has an open cell construction with included ventilation designed to disperse body heat, allowing sleepers to rest on a cooler surface. The foam is also blue, partly due to gel infused in the materials.

Firmness (Comfort & Feel)

The purpose of a topper is to change the feel of your current mattress. The way this one feels is going to depend on the surface you place it on, but overall this should foster a softer feel to most beds.

This 2.5 inch memory material should leave sleepers resting anywhere between a deep hug and gentle cradle, all depending on the sleepers body type and their bedding setup. This product could be used to help dampen motion as it is a slower responding memory material.

Sleepers should not expect this to add any additional bounce to their current sleeping arrangement. Thought the ISOLUS Gel Topper may not assist in repositioning, it should not hinder movements as it is not overly thick.

This product was designed to fill the areas between the hips and the shoulders for back sleepers. The conforming material hugs the curves and helps these folks settled into their bed.

As this design is geared more toward pressure relief, side sleepers should find that this fulfills their needs. The foams should cradle the body, relieving pressure from the hips and shoulders.

If you are a stomach sleeper, this could add the comfort you have been looking for. If you already have a supportive bed stabilizing your waist and keeping it level with the rest of your body, this product stands to add more comfort to your sleep.

Overall, this topper should only change the feel of your current bed slightly, but if you’re looking for a more significant change, you may require a thicker topper.

Temperature Regulation

Waking up in a pool of sweat is not fun at all. That is why a product with temperature technology could make sleeping a whole lot cooler.

Sleepers can experience open-cell foams with added ventilation for cooling. As a plus, this memory material has been infused with gels to help disperse body heat. And as a final touch, the brand included a breathable bamboo cover to help further circulate the air.

Motion Transfer

As much as you may love your toddler or a fluffy friend jumping into your bed, if their tossing and turnings are the cause of restless nights, it may be time to find a solution. If you enjoy their company, adding a topper to decrease motion transfer is a much cheaper option next to buying a whole new bed.

This slow responding, open cell foam was designed to dampen motion. Most sleepers should expect his product to better isolate motion over the surface of their bed.

Other Considerations

  • Cover – This product comes with a removable rayon from bamboo cover.
  • CertiPUR-US® Certified
